Graduated from the National National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1971. Specialty in Pathology (1977), Specialty in Cytopathology (1983) and PhD (1980). Since 1994 Visiting Professor by the University of Toronto of Canada. Research Associate, First Propaedeutic Department of Internal Medicine, Laikon Hospital of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. Trained in Endocrine Pathology at St. Michaels Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada (1998), in Neuropathology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota USA (1991 and 1994), and in artificial Intelligence and Computer Expert Systems at the University of Southern California (1991). Former Head of the Department of Pathology at “G. Gennimatas” General Hospital of Athens and Director of the “National Pituitary Tumor Reference Center” of Greece. He has also served for many years as Research Associate at the Laboratory of Histology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. Member of many relevant Societies including the IAP, ESP, the Endocrine Pathology Society, the Pituitary Society, the International Pituitary Pathology and the European Network of Neuroendocrine Tumors and member of the Endocrine Pathology Working Groups of the European Society of Pathology, and the Hellenic Society of Endocrinology. In 2014, he elected President of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP), President of the IAP (2016-2018). Vice President (1998-2014) and member of the Education Committee of the IAP (2011 - 2021). President of the Endocrine Society (2012-2014), President of the Hellenic Division of the IAP (2004-2016), President of the Hellenic Society of Pathology (1998-2002) and twice President of the International Pituitary Pathology (1998-2001 and 2009-2011). More than 150 original papers and 359 abstracts. Principal author in 14 chapters in books, including 5 chapters in the WHO Classification of Endocrine Tumors of 2005 and another 5 chapters in the WHO Edition of 2017. He has been principal investigator and author in an Expert System in Pituitary and Sellar Tumors. Editor of 25 CD and DVD-ROMS with Slide Seminars in Pathology Guest editor in one book edition and one double volume in Neuroendocrinology. Lectures in several countries including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Colombia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, France, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Netherlands, Madagascar, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam, UK, Ukraine and USA. Gold Medal Award of the International Academy of Pathology (2018), the “George Papanicolaou” Award (2008) and the “George Papanicolaou” Prize (1992). Recipient of MRC Grant, Canada (1993) and ICRETT fellowship granted by UICC, Switzerland, (1993). The University of Toronto, Canada has nominated him for the “Bertha Rosenstadt” Professorship (1993). He is Member of Honor of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences (2002). Lastly, he ranked 5th in the “Top 100 Power List” of influential Pathologists, according to survey of “The Pathologist” Magazine (2015) and also among the “100 of the best, brightest, and most powerful advocates of pathology” according to survey of “The Pathologist” Magazine (2018).
