I am Gunwoo Lee, MD, PhD, and have worked on Yeungnam University College of Medicine in South Korea, as an associate professor, and currently at biomedical department of Michigan State University as a faculty. I have engaged into several basic and translational research, focusing on regenerative medicine (using stem cells and/or exosome) and developing orthopedic devices. The main topics of the research are: (1) Development of disease-specific biomarker with extracellular vesicles from clinical samples or biopsies for early, proper, and accurate diagnosis of specific pathology requiring early diagnosis (e.g., tumorous condition, hip necrosis, ankylosing spondylitis, etc); (2) Deciphering mechanism related to disease occurrence and progression, with specific biotargeting material or in-depth researches; and (3) Translational activities, such as developing 3D-printed orthopedic device (e.g., cage, screw, bone substitute) and diagnostic tool using the developed biomarkers or therapeutic mechanism. From the research activity in history, he has published over 100 scientific papers at international peer-reviewed journals, over 10 national research grants from Korean government for basic and translational research, 15 patents, and 23 of H-index (by Google scholar), so far. During the engagement, I have had several recordable achievements and awards from the University as well as domestic and international societies (e.g., Best professor of the 2021 year at Yeungnam University, Winner of Young Scientist from Korean Society of Spine Surgery (KSSS) at 2017, Korean Society of Extracellular Vesicles (KSEV) at 2023, The award winner of the science paper from Korean Orthopaedic Association at 2022, and Award winner of Cervical Spine Research Society 2023). In addition, I have engaged an editorial board member more than 10 distinguished journals and a reviewer member more than 30 international journals. I am a goal-oriented professional with over 10 years of academic experiences focusing on the basic and translational sciences, as well as medical doctor in a field of orthopedic spine surgery. With my history and expertise, I am getting engaged for understanding and deciphering hidden medical information, especially tissue regeneration using novel technologies such as stem cells, extracellular vesicles, and 3D-printing technology. As a professor of Yeungnam university college of medicine and faculty of orthopedic surgery at YUMC, I have communicated and engaged actively in teaching the knowledge regarding spine and orthopedic surgery, as well as discussing and performing basic researches about translational researches with novel sources (e.g., stem cells, extracellular vesicles, etc.). I am always tried to be with my family (wife and 2 adorable sons), and love to go skiing and some activities with my sons.
