I am Yu Tang and now serve as an associate professor at National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Disorders, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, China. I obtained my phD in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China and trained as a postdoc at University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (UTSW). I have long been engaged in studying the mechanisms of microglia-mediated neurological diseases, as well as the directed differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) to model the pathogenesis of neurogenetic diseases and develop neuroregenerative strategies. The main academic achievements are as follows: (1) Neurodegenerative diseases and microglia-mediated neuroinflammation; As the first and corresponding author, I have published 5 papers on journals such as Cell Death and Differentiation, Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, Molecular Neurobiology, among others. (2) Applications of hPSCs in modeling the pathogenesis of neurogenetic diseases; As the first and corresponding author, I have published 7 papers on journals such as Journal of Neuroscience, BMC Biology, Inflammation and Regeneration, Front Mol Neurosci, Stem Cell Research, Methods in Molecular Biology, and so on. I have also edited an book entitled "Human Pluripotent Stem Cells", the Neuromethods series, Springer Press. Apart from these, I have also contributed to studying human genetics and published in journals such as JBC, Theranostics, CRISPR J, J Cell Mol Med and J Clin Immunol, among others. So far, my publications have been cited as 4025 times. One of the publications was selected as one of the "100 Most Influential International Academic Papers in China" (ESI top 0.01% in the field of Neuroscience & Behavior; cited more than 2080 times so far). The H-index is 20. I have been actively engaged in editorial/peer-review activities. Since 2016, I have reviewed more than 119 papers, and wrote 2 editorials in more than 20 journals, including Nature Biomedical Engineering, Cellular Molecular Life Sciences, Genetics in Medicine, Translational Psychiatry, Gene Therapy, Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy, Cell Death & Disease, Stem Cell Research & Therapy, FEBS Letters, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, British Journal of Pharmacology, BMC Neuroscience, Neuroscience Letters, Cell Cycle, Journal of Neuroimmunology, Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica, and so forth. I have served as guest editors and hosted 6 research topics. I am addressing the important yet emerging questions on the role of genetic variants in microglia, a major contributor during the pathogenesis of neurological diseases, by employing both human pluripotent stem cells and mice model. This field converges all of my current research expertise on neurological diseases, stem cell biology and human genetics. I am now leading a lab at Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, China, for several years. And so, I am proficient in lab establishment, daily running and management of post-graduate students. I am fond of reading books, watching documentary, and billiards, among others.
