I, Dr. Ratan K. Choudhary, am serving as an Assistant Professor at the College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Punjab. I did Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, USA). My doctoral research aimed to characterize bovine mammary stem cells and in vivo cellular manipulation for enhanced bovine lactation persistency. I have the working experience at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) facility for more than six years (2007-2012). Received two post-doctoral trainings, one from the University of Kentucky (2012-2013) and the other from the University of Vermont (2018-2020), USA. I have published • 03 international books as an editor – e.g. Stem Cells in Veterinary Science (Springer) • 02 mobile apps- including “Stem Cells: Basic Understanding and Clinical Applications, available on the Google App Store • > 55 papers • 10 book chapters • > 60 presentations As of now (Sept 2024), I have Citations of 605 with an h-index of 14 and i10-index of 19. I have reviewed more than 100 papers and 10 proposals so far. I am working on two main areas, including 1. Regenerative medicine – wound healing, cancer, mastitis. The long-term goal of his research is to develop stem cell therapies for pets and utilize stem cells as ‘drug’ in bovine mastitis. 2. Veterinary diagnostics – early pregnancy detection in buffaloes, AFSV, canine mammary tumors, and mastitis. Specialized skills: a. Research grant writing – USA, Europe and Indian standards b. Research proposal review Expertise: • Mammary stem cells and manipulations • Laser capture microdissection at single cell level for gene expression (Expert) • Transcriptome pathway analysis- Ingenuity pathway analysis, DAVID, STRING and others • RNA isolation, quantification • Real time qPCR • Immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry • Mammary epithelial cell isolation and culture • Brightfield and fluorescent microscopy • Imaging and image analysis • Working the animal models- goat, cow, and water buffalo I love music.
