Sonia Scarfì, PhD. I'm an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology in the University of Genova, Italy, in the Department of Earth, Environment and Life Sciences (DISTAV). I obtained my PhD in “Biotechnology applied to Pharmacology and cellular and molecular biotechnology applied to the biomedical field” in 1999. My research studies focus on HSC and MSC focusing on the proliferative and differentiative mechanisms and new signal transduction pathways, and on inflammatory/carcinogenic processes involving macrophages associated to quartz and mineral fibres inhalation to find new hazard predictive tests. I authored 75 articles listed in SCOPUS, various book’s chapters and several patents. The number of articles as first author are 13, last author 9, corresponding author 23. Google scholar H-index: 32, citations: 2360. I was an invited speaker at three international conferences and participated to the scientific committee of an International Conference. I'm a member of the Italian 3R Centre and of the ESTIV. Reviewer for International journals: Stem Cells and Development, Tissue Engineering, Connective Tissue Research, Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Particle and Fiber Toxicology, Process Biochemistry, World Journals, Biomedical Materials, Folia Histochemica et Cytobiologica, Current Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Protein Chemistry, Biomedical and Environmental Sciences Journal, Ant-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry Journal, Environmental Pollution, Particle and Fibre Toxicology, Molecules, Toxicology in vitro. I have peer reviewed more than 70 manuscripts in the last 12 years. I'm in the editorial board of other journals. Academic goals in the long term are mainly to shed light on the mechanisms of toxicity and carcinogenicity of mineral fibres to envision new predictive tests and to discover new natural molecules for cell growth and survival for regenerative medicine. My skills revolve around molecular and cell biology and biotechnology techniques and knowledge. I have collaborations with several European research groups. I'm head of the Molecular Biology lab in my department, and in the years I mentored tens of students for their graduation and master scientific theses. I was Research Unit Head of three regional research projects, the PI of an Italian Ministry of University and Research project and of Ministry of Health project. I enjoy my family, reading and walking in the mountains.
