Dr. Yun-Wen Zheng has joined the University of Tsukuba Faculty of Medicine as an Associate Professor in the Department of Advanced Gastroenterological Surgical Science and Technology for the researches on regenerative medicine. As a distinguished Medical Experts and Visiting Professor, he also serves for Research Center of Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine, Jiangsu University Hospital, China as well as a Visiting Associated Professor for Yokohama City University School of Medicine. Dr. Zheng earned his PhD of Medical Science majoring in Physiology/Stem Cell Biology in the University of Tsukuba Graduate School of Medicine, Japan.As a stem cell biologist, since 2003 he has been a team leader for liver and cancer stem cell researches as well as regenerative medicine. Dr. Zheng is interested in iPS and somatic stem cell developing into endodermal and hepatic direction as well the stem cells in normal and cancer tissue, especially for hepatic primordial development and the cellular microenvironment; Organoids and cell-cell interaction in 3D system; Immunodeficient animals, humanized liver as well humanized blood and drug development. Furthermore, he is also interested in patient-derived cellular reprogramming and transplant therapy. Now he has hold 11 patents in Japan, US, Europe and China in the realm of embryonic stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cell, hepatic stem cells and humanized animals.
