Antonio Carlos Campos de Carvalho graduated in Medicine (1976), master in Biophysics (1979) and Ph.D. in Biophysics (1983) all from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Is currently Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and was Research Director at the National Cardiology Institute in Rio de Janeiro. Also holds a part time position as Professor of the Neuroscience Department at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Currently works on cell therapies and stem cells, heading the Brazilian Cell Therapy Network (www.rntc.org.br) and coordinated the MiHeart Trial, a Multicenter Randomized Trial of Cell Therapy in Cardiopathies, involving more than 1000 patients. Published 198 full articles and more than 26 book Chapters. Has supervised 22 pos-docs, 39 PhD and 24 master students. Is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). Was on the board of the International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS) until 2013.
