Professor Zifu Li’s lab is based on the National Engineering Research Center for Nanomedicine at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research lies at the interface of biomaterials, drug delivery, and cellular and molecular bioengineering to fundamentally understand and therapeutically target biological molecules, cancer cells, immune cells, and cancer stem cells. His lab applies their research findings and the technologies developed to a range of human health applications, particularly on cancer diagnosis and treatment. Current research projects include: mechano-nanooncology, tumor mechanics, and nanomedicine mechanics. He has been selected as a national high-level young talent, overseas high-level talent in Hubei Province, academic frontier youth team project of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Emerging Investigators of Biomaterials Science 2023. As the leader of the Central University Excellent Youth Team Cultivation Project, he has been selected as a core backbone for the Ministry of Science and Technology's key field innovation team. He has published over 90 SCI papers in various journals, such as Nature Communications and Biomaterials, with citations more than 4800 times and an H-factor of 39. He has applied for 30 Chinese invention patents (of which 25 have been approved), 5 PCT international patents, and 1 US patent. He has also participated in the compilation of 2 English monographs, led 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and participated in 2 key R&D programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology. His research work has obtained 2 ethical approvals for clinical trials. He serves as an expert of the Expert Consultation Committee for Drug Registration and Evaluation in China, deputy director of the Key Laboratory of Bioinorganic Chemistry and Drugs in Hubei Province, and the Engineering Research Center for Biomedical and Protective Materials in Hubei Province. He is also selected as a standing committee member of the Youth Committee of Nanooncology of the Chinese Anti Cancer Association, a member of the Youth Committee of Pharmacy of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, a member of the Nanotoxicology Professional Committee of the Chinese Toxicology Society, and a member of the Tumor Immunology and Biological Therapy Professional Committee of the Chinese Immunological Society.
