Abstract
PURPOSE To review all studies reporting the occurrence of white dot syndromes (WDSs) following SARS-COV-2 infection. METHODS On May 12, 2023, we registered our protocol on PROSPERO [registration number: CRD42023426012]. Five different databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Science Direct were searched up to May 2023. We included all studies that reported the symptoms of WDSs following SARS-COV-2 infection. The data was extracted using a uniform Excel extraction sheet. All statistical tests were conducted with a 95% confidence interval and a 5% error margin. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The publication bias of included studies was assessed using JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Case Reports and IHE Quality Appraisal Checklist for Case Series studies. RESULTS This review included thirty-two studies involving forty-eight patients. Acute macular neuroretinopathy was the most common disease (70.8%) followed by multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (14.6%) with 58.3% of WDS after their first SARS-COV-2 infection, and paracentral acute middle maculopathy (4.1%). They were mostly unilateral (56.2%). The presenting symptoms were blurred vision (70.8%), visual field disturbance (68.7%), and photopsia (20.8%). About 35.4% of the patients improved by their treatment and future complications were persistent scotoma (4.2%) and macular edema (2.1%). CONCLUSION White dot syndromes are very rare entities. Our findings suggest a possible association between white dot syndrome onset and SARS-COV-2 infection. We recommend ophthalmologists should be aware of this suggested association to deliver better management and patients' care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND During the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a notable increase in acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) cases was observed. This study aimed to investigate the potential association between AMN and COVID-19 by examining 3 cases in China. CASE SUMMARY The first case involved a 30-year-old man who presented with progressive vision loss following a COVID-19 infection. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and near-infrared imaging identified hallmark AMN lesions, hyperreflective disruptions within the outer plexiform layer, and hyporeflective anomalies in the ellipsoid zone, leading to an AMN diagnosis. Despite partial visual recovery, OCT angiography (OCTA) revealed persistent microvascular changes, specifically a decreased vascular density in the deep capillary plexus. The second case was a 24-year-old woman who experienced blurred vision and exhibited bilateral cotton-wool spots on fundus examination post-COVID-19. Imaging confirmed the presence of AMN along with paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM). Follow-up OCTA found a progressive reduction in vascular density, indicating ongoing microvascular compromise. The third case was a 28-year-old woman who reported sensations of occlusion in her right eye following a COVID-19 infection. Imaging confirmed both AMN and PAMM, revealing similar decreases of microvascular density on OCTA despite a significant improvement in visual acuity. We noted that all 3 patients had received the COVID-19 vaccine prior to the appearance of symptoms. CONCLUSION The findings highlight the diagnostic utility of advanced ocular imaging in detecting AMN in COVID-19 patients and the importance of comprehensive eye examinations.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the clinical and retinal imaging features of Chinese patients with acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) associated with COVID-19. DESIGN A prospective observational study. METHODS Retinal imaging, including color fundus photography, near-infrared imaging (NIR), swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT), optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), and Humphrey perimetry, were conducted for each case. RESULTS All cases were included within the first three months following the pandemic outbreak. A total of 12 male patients (36.36 %) and 21 female patients (63.64 %) were prospectively recruited, and 29 cases (87.88 %) were bilaterally affected. The median interval between the onset of fever and the appearance of ocular symptoms was two days (range, 0.5-5.0 days). Apart from the outer retinal changes typical of AMN, changes in the inner retinal layers were observed, including intraretinal hemorrhage (8.06 %), cotton wool spots (9.68 %), and paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) (8.06 %). Smaller retinal inner nuclear layer hyperreflective speckles (RIHS) (41.94 %) were identified as a distinguishing feature from typical PAMM. Voids of vessel signals were found in the superficial (11.54 %), intermediate (82.69 %), and deep capillary plexus (98.08 %), and in the choriocapillaris (19.23 %) on OCTA. Humphrey perimetry illustrated central, paracentral, and peripheral scotomas. The occult lesions associated with AMN, PAMM, and some of the RIHS illustrated by OCT were visualized topographically and further confirmed by OCTA as perfusion defects. CONCLUSION An increase in AMN cases correlated with the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. Additional features, including widespread inner retinal perfusion deficits, were observed and may serve as potential biomarkers for systemic microcirculation dysregulation in COVID-19.

Abstract
Purpose To report a case of bilateral acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) associated with COVID-19 infection presenting with central scotoma. Observation A 26-year-old female presented with a chief complaint of bilateral central scotomas for the last seven days. She had a history of fever over the past ten days, and RT-PCR test for COVID-19 was positive on the second day of fever. She had been vaccinated against COVID-19 eight months prior. Her best corrected visual acuity was 6/6 in both eyes on the Snellen chart. Dilated fundus evaluation revealed subtle bilateral perifoveal grey macular lesions. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) demonstrated focal hyperreflectivity at the level of the outer nuclear and plexiform layer consistent with bilateral AMN. Near-infrared reflectance (NIR) and red-free (RF) imaging showed large, confluent hyporeflective lesions in the right eye and discrete petaloid lesions with apices pointing toward the fovea in the left eye. OCT angiography (OCTA) revealed decreased flow signal at the level of the deep capillary plexus (DCP) and choriocapillaris (CC) in both eyes. Automated visual field testing (Humprey Field Analyzer (HFA) 24-2) revealed bilateral central scotoma with depression of adjacent points. After two weeks, the patient had depressed visual fields on HFA 10-2. At two months of final follow-up, OCT macula, NIR and RF images revealed resolving AMN lesions in both eyes. OCTA showed an increase in perfusion at the level of the DCP. There was a decrease in scotoma density on HFA 10-2, suggestive of resolving AMN. Conclusion and importance AMN with central scotoma as presenting feature of COVID-19 is rare. Fundus findings may be very subtle in AMN, but NIR and RF imaging delineate the lesions well. OCT, NIR imaging, OCTA and HFA 10-2 can be used to assess the clinical course of AMN.

Abstract
To define the characteristics of fundus manifestations in patients after SARS-CoV-2 infection with multimodal imaging techniques. This is a retrospective multicenter and multimodal imaging study including 90 patients. All patients with a visual complaint occurring immediately after SARS-CoV-2 infection were referred to six clinics between December 2022 and February 2023. Demographic information and the temporal relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and visual symptoms were documented. The characteristics of the fundus lesions were evaluated using multimodal imaging. Ninety patients from six hospitals were included in this study, including 24 males (26.67%) and 66 (73.33%) females. Seventy-eight patients (86.66%) (146 eyes) were diagnosed with Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy (AMN). The AMN patients were primarily young women (67.95%). Sixty-eight patients (87.18%) had AMN in both eyes. Thirty-eight eyes (24.36%) included Purtscher or Purtscher-like lesions. optical coherence tomography and infrared retinal photographs can show AMN lesions well. Eleven cases were diagnosed with simple Purtscher or Purtscher-like retinopathy (2 cases, 2.22%), Vogt‒Koyanagi‒Harada (VKH) syndrome or VKH-like uveitis (3 cases, 3.33%), multiple evanescent white-dot syndrome (MEWDS) (2 cases, 2.22%), and rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM) (5 cases, 5.56%). After SARS-CoV-2 infection, diversified fundus lesions were evident in patients with visual complaints. In this report, AMN was the dominant manifestation, followed by Purtscher or Purtscher-like retinopathy, MEWDS, VKH-like uveitis, and ROCM.

Abstract
Ocular involvement is not uncommon in patients with COVID-19. However, the incidence of COVID-19 ophthalmopathy in COVID-19 patients is still not clear. In this prospective case series study, we recruited 2445 consecutive cases presenting at Neuro-ophthalmology clinic of our Eye Center during the last resurgence of SARS-CoV-2 infection from 8 December 2022 to 15 March 2023 in China, 149 cases were diagnosed as COVID-19 ophthalmopathy, 87 cases were female, with a mean age of 43.2 years, and the mean follow-up time was 15.4 weeks. One hundred and twenty of 149 cases suffered from systemic symptoms mostly manifesting as fever, cough and muscle pain prior to or soon after ocular involvement. The most common COVID-19 ophthalmopathy was optic neuritis (51/149), followed by acute zonal occult outer retinopathy complex disease (31/149), uveitis (17/149), ocular mobility disorder-related (third, fourth, or sixth) cranial nerve neuritis (15/149), anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (9/149), retinal artery occlusion (8/149), retinal microangiopathy including retinal haemorrhage and cotton wool spot (8/149), viral conjunctivitis (7/149), retinal vein occlusion (3/149), viral keratitis (2/149), ptosis (2/149), and other rare ocular diseases. Except 5 cases with central retinal artery occlusion, other 144 COVID-19 ophthalmopathy cases showed good response to steroid therapy. Our study revealed an incidence of 6.09% for COVID-19 ophthalmopathy in outpatients at our Neuro-ophthalmology clinic during last resurgence of COVID-19 in China, and demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 infection could induce an initial onset or a relapse of ophthalmic diseases, and that ocular involvement might manifest as the initial or even the only presentation of COVID-19.

Abstract
Background The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a highly contagious disease with profound health implications. It can affect any part of the body with variable severity. Various ophthalmic manifestations of coronavirus disease have been documented. Case Presentations. We reported three cases of outer retinopathies associated with COVID-19 infection. All three patients were young females. The first two patients presented within days of COVID-19 infection with complaints of black spots in the eyes. Multimodal retinal imaging showed lesions consistent with acute macular neuroretinopathy. Lesions were bilateral in the first patient and unilateral in the second one. Our third patient presented with blurred vision in one eye, 3 months after a suspected COVID-19 infection. Retinal imaging showed outer retinopathy. Our patients' vision was good and maintained during the follow-up. All three were monitored on observation only, and symptoms and lesions improved with time. Conclusion In conclusion, COVID-19-related thromboinflammatory response can result in localized vascular inflammation and hypoperfusion in any of the retinal capillary plexuses or choriocapillaris resulting in ischemia of the corresponding retinal or choroidal layers.

Abstract

We performed a comprehensive search on PubMed, retrieving articles containing information on AMN after COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 infection. The key words used were 'COVID-19', 'SARS-CoV-2', 'ophthalmic manifestations', 'acute macular neuroretinopathy', and 'paracentral scotomas'. The relevant data were extracted, charted, consolidated, and evaluated. Moreover, manual exploration of the reference lists of pertinent articles was carried out. Results We describe the case of a 30-year-old young woman who developed bilateral AMN one day after being infected with COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2. She had severe visual impairment (20/2000 OD and 20/32 OS), and her vision recovered after taking oral corticosteroids. After reviewing the literature, we summarized 16 relevant reports and found that symptoms of AMN tend to arise 1 day to 1 month after COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 infection. Contraceptive pills and other risk factors should be avoided to reduce the risk of adverse outcomes. Oral prednisone may be an effective treatment for those experiencing important vision loss. Conclusion Symptoms of AMN can arise 1 day to 1 month after COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 infection. Ophthalmologists should remain vigilant about this disease, notably because patient characteristics may deviate from the norm.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In this study, we report a case series of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) associated with COVID-19 infection. METHODS This retrospective observational study was conducted at Beijing Tongren Hospital. We reviewed patients who were diagnosed with AMN within one month of testing positive for COVID-19 using real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). RESULTS A total of 11 AMN patients (20 eyes) were included in the study. The mean age was 33.8 ± 12.6 years. The average interval between a positive COVID-19 PCR test and the onset of ocular symptoms was 2.8 ± 2.5 days. The mean follow-up period for the patients was 12.5 ± 3.8 weeks. Imaging characteristics of AMN patients following COVID-19 infection included areas of low reflectivity on near-infrared reflectance (NIR) imaging, hyperreflective lesions at the level of the outer plexiform layer (OPL) and outer nuclear layer (ONL) and disruption of the ellipsoid zone (EZ) on spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) B-scans. Visual field examinations revealed parafoveal scotomas that closely corresponded to the clinical lesions. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) demonstrated impaired perfusion in the deep retinal vascular plexus. Fluorescein angiography (FA), indocyanine green angiography (ICGA), and spontaneous fundus autofluorescence showed no significant abnormalities. During follow-up, partial improvement in retinal lesions was observed in NIR imaging and SD-OCT in some patients, but a proportion of patients still exhibited persistent retinal damage and no improvement in visual field scotomas. CONCLUSION COVID-19-related AMN share similar clinical and imaging features with AMN due to other causes, as evidenced by the persistent presence of visual field scotomas over a longer duration. Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM The aim of this study was to analyze choroidal circulatory and structural changes using laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) in acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) after infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), respectively. CASE REPORT A 24-year-old woman complained of distorted vision after SARS-CoV-2 infection oculi uterque (OU) and referred to our hospital because of ellipsoid zones (EZ) disruption on OCT. Her best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 1.2 OU. Color fundus photographs revealed dark red lesions in the macula, and scanning laser ophthalmoscopy infrared images showed hypointensity consistent with dark red lesions OU. We diagnosed the patient with AMN after SARS-CoV-2 infection, and posterior sub-Tenon injections of triamcinolone acetonide were performed OU. Five months after the initial visit, her BCVA was 1.2 OU, and EZ disruption improved. The rate of change in macular blood flow assessed by the mean blur rate on LSFG was 20.4% and 29.6% increase oculus dexter (OD) and oculus sinister (OS) 5 months after the initial visit, respectively. The central choroidal thickness showed 13.5% increase OD and 16.1% increase OS. The binarization technique demonstrated that the ratio of luminal areas in choroidal area increased by 12.6% OD and 14.2% OS, and stromal areas increased by 7.3% OD and 16.9% OS. CONCLUSION Before and after treatment for AMN, the luminal component may have increased with improvement of acute choroidal circulatory disturbance caused by SARS-CoV-2, and increased stromal components may be due to chronic inflammation and tissue remodeling of the stroma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE OR PURPOSE Acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) is a rare, poorly understood retinal disease that affects the outer retina. Recent studies reported the onset of AMN is associated with COVID-19 infection. However, it still lacks thorough evaluation regarding the clinical features of AMN after COVID-19 infection. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. PARTICIPANTS This study involved online registration of patients who were diagnosed with AMN after rapid antigen or PCR tests confirmed COVID-19 infections from December 2022 to March 2023. METHODS We interviewed all patients and completed an evaluation survey that recorded age, sex, menstruation pattern, medical history, doses of COVID-19 vaccination, symptom onset (days after fever onset), symptoms, and treatment measures. The association between clinical characteristics and baseline visual acuity was investigated. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Demographic and clinical characteristics of AMN after COVID-19 infection. RESULTS A total of 116 eyes from 66 patients were included in the present study. The average age was 30.4 ± 6.7, and 81.8% of patients were female. The average time of ocular symptom onset was 2.62 ± 1.88 days after fever onset. Scotomas (87.9%) were the most common symptoms reported by patients, whereas 25.9% and 1.7% of eyes had blurry vision and photopsia. 80.2%, 60.3%, 26.7%, 10.3%, and 3.4% of eyes showed ellipsoid zone (EZ) disruption, hyper-reflectivity of outer nuclear layer (ONL), hyper-reflectivity of Henle layer, hyper-reflectivity of outer plexiform layer (OPL), and macular edema, respectively. A history of smoking (Coef. =0.12, 95%CI: [0.00, 0.24]), macular edema (Coef. =0.14, 95%CI: [0.00, 0.88]), hyper-reflectivity of OPL (Coef. =0.16, 95%CI: [0.08, 0.24]), hyper-reflectivity of Henle layer (Coef. =0.08, 95%CI: [0.03, 0.14]), and EZ disruption (Coef. =0.07, 95%CI: [0.00, 0.13]) were associated with worse LogMAR visual acuity at baseline. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE AMN after COVID-19 infection is more common in young females. Hyper-reflectivity of ONL and EZ disruption are the most common OCT features of AMN. Macular edema, hyper-reflectivity of OPL, hyper-reflectivity of the Henle layer, EZ disruption, and a history of smoking are associated with worse visual acuity at baseline.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Growing evidence suggests an association between the infection from the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) and eye disorders. The aim of this review was to analyze the clinical presentation and diagnostic features of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) and paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) associated with COVID-19 infection. The features are then compared with previous reports regarding these retinal disorders, to recognize possible specific characteristics and to assess the role of multimodal ophthalmic imaging. SUMMARY A literature search was performed by consulting PubMed, Scopus, and Embase. The following terms were searched: "(COVID-19 OR SARS-CoV-2 OR coronavirus) AND ([acute macular neuroretinopathy] OR [paracentral acute middle maculopathy])." Inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) publication date from January 31, 2020 to January 31, 2022; (2) English language; (3) original research or case report; (4) free full-text availability.Optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings in AMN patients were hyper-reflectivity (HR) of the outer plexiform layer, of the outer nuclear layer, and ellipsoid or interdigitation zones (EZ and IZ, respectively) disruption. In most cases, the presence of HR and EZ/IZ abnormalities resulted combined. When performed, OCT angiography (OCTA) identified attenuation of signal of the deep capillary plexus (DCP). The most common OCT finding in PAMM was an alteration of the inner nuclear layer, associated with other areas of HR, while no signs of EZ/IZ disruption were detected. When performed, OCTA showed the attenuation of signal of both the DCP and the superficial capillary plexus. KEY MESSAGES In this review, we reported a case series of AMN and PAMM in patients with a previous or concomitant infection from SARS-CoV-2. The microvascular changes in these cases are highlighted by the OCTA scans. Even if we are far from the determination of a direct link between COVID-19 and these retinal disorders, we could hypothesize that the vascular alterations associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection could be a possible risk factor for both AMN and PAMM.

Abstract
Acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) commonly affects young to middle-aged females and is considered a relatively rare retinal disease, and the etiology is complex. Advances in multimodal imaging provide a better characterization of retinal disorders and have helped identify that one of the etiologies of AMN is microvascular in nature. This case is clinically relevant as it adds to the literature that the pathophysiology of AMN is vascular-driven. Our case is a 24-year-old Black female with no past medical history, the only medication she was taking was an oral contraceptive pill, who presented to the emergency room with a 24-hour history of left central field vision loss and endorsed a recent upper respiratory tract infection preceding the acute vision loss. It was subsequently found on admission that the patient tested positive for and had a SARS-CoV-2 infection. A retina specialist performed optical coherence tomography (OCT), which showed disruption in the outer segment junction, including the ellipsoid zone and outer plexiform. The use of multimodal imaging like OCT helped confirm AMN; therefore, prompt examination by ophthalmology is critical to confirm a correct diagnosis. This patient’s vision improved and remained stable five months later. This case demonstrates that, like other viruses, SARS-CoV-2 has the potential to cause retinal disease complications such as AMN. These findings reinforce and add to the current literature that SARS-CoV-2 can cause multiple-organ system dysfunction at a vascular level through immune-mediated pathways.

Abstract
Purpose: To review the demographic and clinical profile of patients developing acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) or paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) after receiving coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) vaccination or infection. Methods: In this review article, the published literature was searched to determine cases developing either AMN or PAMM after COVID-19 vaccinations or infections. Data, including demographic profile, presenting features, symptoms, diagnosis, and clinical outcomes, were extracted from the selected publications. These parameters were compared between the two groups, i.e., patients developing AMN/PAMM either after vaccination or infection. Results: After the literature review, 57 patients developing either AMN (n = 40), PAMM (n = 14), or both (n = 3) after COVID-19 infection (n = 29) or vaccination (n = 28) were included (mean age: 34.9 ± 14.4 years; n = 38; 66.7% females). In 24.6% patients, the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection was preceded by the development of ocular disease. There were no significant differences in the age or gender between the patients developing AMN or PAMM after vaccination or infection (p > 0.13). Among the vaccination group, the highest number of patients developing AMN/PAMM were after the Oxford-AstraZeneca (n = 12; 42.9%). Patients with vaccination had a significantly early onset of AMN/PAMM compared to those with infection (11.5 ± 17.6 days versus 37.8 ± 43.6 days; p = 0.001). Conclusions: Both AMN and PAMM are reported to be associated with COVID-19 infections and in persons receiving vaccination against COVID-19. While COVID-19 infections and vaccinations may have a contributory role, other risk factors such as oral contraceptive pills may also play a role in the development of the disease.

Abstract
A 21-year-old female developed bilateral acute-onset paracentral scotomas three days after receiving the second dose of her Moderna COVID-19 vaccination. A clinical diagnosis of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) was confirmed after classic findings were demonstrated on near-infrared reflectance imaging, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography, and colored fundus photography. The patient presented with visual acuity of 20/100-1 OD and 20/20 OS. After treatment with brimonidine and difluprednate, at a two-week follow-up, her visual acuity was 20/100-2 OD and 20/25-2 OS. There have been reported cases of AMN following flu-like illnesses as well as after receiving vaccines. However, this is the first report of AMN following vaccination with a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract
Vaccination efforts as a mitigation strategy in the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic are fully underway. A vital component of understanding the optimal clinical use of these vaccines is a thorough investigation of adverse events following vaccination. To date, some limited reports and reviews have discussed ocular adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination, but a systematic review detailing these reports with manifestations and clinical courses as well as proposed mechanisms has yet to be published. This comprehensive review one-year into vaccination efforts against COVID-19 is meant to furnish sound understanding for ophthalmologists and primary care physicians based on the existing body of clinical data. We discuss manifestations categorized into one of the following: eyelid, orbit, uveitis, retina, vascular, neuro-ophthalmology, ocular motility disorders, and other.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report two cases of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) in young female patients following the administration of the adenovirus-based coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca). METHODS Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography and infrared imaging were used to confirm the diagnosis of AMN. RESULTS Both patients showed a parafoveal hyperreflective band in the outer nuclear layer, disruption of the ellipsoid and interdigitation zones of the photoreceptor layers, and correlating hyporeflective areas on the near-infrared images. Both patients presented with flu-like fever and sudden onset of fortifications within 48 hours of vaccination. One patient showed altered flow in the deep capillary plexus and highly elevated thrombotic parameters. CONCLUSION We report a possible association between immune-mediated AMN and the administration of adenovirus-based COVID-19 vaccine Vaxzevria.

Abstract
Background: Acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) is an increasingly diagnosed disorder associated with several diseases. The aim of this study was to report the incidence of AMN cases diagnosed during the 2020 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic year in a French hospital, and to describe their different forms. Methods: All patients diagnosed between 2019 and 2020, in Paris Rothschild Foundation Hospital, with AMN, paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) and multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) were retrospectively collected using the software Ophtalmoquery® (Corilus, V1.86.0018, 9050 Gand, Belgium). Systemic and ophthalmological data from AMN patients were analyzed. Results: Eleven patients were diagnosed with AMN in 2020 vs. only one patient reported in 2019. The incidence of AMN significantly increased from 0.66/100,000 visits in 2019 to 8.97/100,000 visits in 2020 (p = 0.001), whereas the incidence of PAMM and MEWDS remained unchanged. Four (36%) of these AMN patients were tested for COVID-19 and received positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. Conclusions: The incidence of AMN cases increased significantly in our institution in 2020, which was the year of the COVID-19 pandemic. All AMN-tested patients received a positive COVID PCR test, suggesting a possible causative link. According to the different clinical presentations, AMN may reflect different severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pathogenic mechanisms.
