I am Zulqarnain Baloch, PhD, a Professor in the Faculty of Life Science and Technology at Kunming University of Science and Technology, China. My research centers on comprehending the dynamics of infectious diseases and antimicrobial-resistant microbes within the human-animal-environment interface under the One Health framework. I have conducted pioneering research investigating the prevalence and genetic diversity of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) among diverse ethnic groups in Yunnan Province, China, providing key insights into viral epidemiology in underrepresented populations. Our team employs a multidisciplinary approach that integrates molecular epidemiology, genomic surveillance, and microbial pathogenesis to decode the complex transmission networks of infectious agents, particularly those that cross species barriers. We aim to identify novel risk factors and intervention strategies by bridging the gaps between clinical microbiology, veterinary sciences, and environmental health. A substantial part of our work focuses on tracking antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes and understanding their evolution, spread, and impact on public health. We utilize next-generation sequencing, metagenomics, and in silico modeling to detect and predict emerging microbial threats. I have published more than 100 articles in high-impact journals. My work has been cited extensively and recognized internationally, with over 6850 citations to date and an H-index of 33 on Google Scholar. I serve on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals, including Asian Journal of Psychiatry, Frontiers group, and World Journal of Hepatology, where I contribute to maintaining rigorous peer-review standards and promoting high-quality research dissemination. In recognition of my expertise, I have been invited to speak at several international symposia and One Health conferences, where I shared insights on AMR surveillance, HPV epidemiology, and the future of integrated disease management. I am passionate about mentoring young scientists and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to tackle global health challenges. In my free time, I enjoy hiking through the scenic mountains of Yunnan and exploring traditional Chinese cuisine.
