Prof. Ladislav Hosak, M.D., Ph.D. is the Head of the Dpt. of Psychiatry, Charles University in Prague, School of Medicine in Hradec Kralove and University Hospital Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. He is the vice-secretary of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry (WFSBP; http://www.wfsbp.org/home.html ), and the President of the Czech Society of Biological Psychiatry. He was the local organizer of the 10th World Congress of Biological Psychiatry in Prague in 2011.
Prof. Hosak started his academic career with pharmacoeconomics. He published the first monograph on pharmacoeconomics in psychiatry in the Czech Republic in 2000. After that, he switched to psychiatric genetics and published several original articles related to the Val158Met COMT gene polymorphism and its role in mental disorders. Prof. Hosak has recently been involved in a genetic research into schizophrenia in the Czech Republic, and the publication of the results of his research is expected in 2017. He is also interested in microvascular abnormalities in schizophrenia and depression. A substantial part of prof. Hosak′s professional activity is related to forensic psychiatry. Prof. Hosak has recently published two textbooks of psychiatry (?Psychiatrie a pedopsychiatrie“ in Czech in 2015; ?Psychiatry and pedopsychiatry“ in English in 2016). Prof. Hosak is a member of the Examination Committee related to the medical postgraduate certification in psychiatry in the Czech Republic.
