Full Professor of Psychiatry since November 2010 at School of Medicine and Psychology, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and Director of the Psychiatric Unit of the Sant’Andrea Hospital. Professor Girardi authored more than 500 scientific publications. Co-authored several books and scientific treatises. The main areas of scientific research, for which he has achieved results of considerable international relevance, concern the clinical psychiatry, treatment of mood disorders and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, biological psychiatry, social psychiatry, clinical psychology, and psychopharmacology. He regularly holds teaching classes at Sapienza University, Rome, Italy. Founding member of the ‘Lucio Bini Centre’ and ‘Aretaeus ONLUS’ in Rome, aimed to the study and clinical treatment of bipolar disorders. Founded the ‘Italian School for the Fight against Stigma’ (ASILS). He is member of different scientific associations and societies in the field of psychiatry, including the ‘Italian Society of Psychiatry’ (SIP), ‘Italian Society of Social Psychiatry’ (SIPS), and ‘European Association of Psychiatry’ (EAP).
