Abstract
[Purpose] This study aimed to measure the analgesic effects and efficacy of radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy, for which no consensus has been reached regarding optimal treatment parameters. [Participants and Methods] The study included 40 feet of 40 patients with plantar fasciitis. The visual analogue scale was used to determine the immediate and cumulative effects of radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy as well as the efficacy rate. Efficacy was calculated as a percentage visual analogue scale change of ≥20 mm and visual analogue scale improvement of ≥60%. [Results] Immediate and continued efficacy of radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy was observed and recorded. Efficacy rates based on a percentage visual analogue scale change of ≥20 mm and visual analogue scale improvement of ≥60% were both 57.5%. [Conclusion] Radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy has immediate and cumulative analgesic effects on plantar fasciitis. However, cumulative results of interventions with various treatment parameters are required to determine the optimal treatment parameter settings for diffuse pressure wave therapy for plantar fasciitis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Plantar fasciitis is a painful tendinous condition (tendinopathy) with a high prevalence in athletes. While a healthy tendon has limited blood flow, ultrasound has indicated elevated blood flow in tendinopathy, but it is unknown if this is related to a de facto increase in the tendon vasculature. Likewise, an accumulation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) is observed in tendinopathy, but its relationship to clinical pain is unknown. PURPOSE To explore to what extent vascularization, inflammation, and fat infiltration were present in patients with plantar fasciitis and if they were related to clinical symptoms. STUDY DESIGN Descriptive laboratory study. METHODS Biopsy specimens from tendinopathic plantar fascia tissue were obtained per-operatively from both the primary site of tendon pain and tissue swelling ("proximal") and a region that appeared macroscopically healthy at 1 to 2 cm away from the primary site ("distal") in 22 patients. Biopsy specimens were examined with immunofluorescence for markers of blood vessels, tissue cell density, fat infiltration, and macrophage level. In addition, pain during the first step in the morning (registered during an earlier study) was correlated with the content of collagen and GAGs in tissue. RESULTS High vascularization (and cellularity) was present in both the proximal (0.89%) and the distal (0.96%) plantar fascia samples, whereas inconsistent but not significantly different fat infiltration and macrophage levels were observed. The collagen content was similar in the 2 plantar fascia regions, whereas the GAG content was higher in the proximal region (3.2% in proximal and 2.8% in distal; P = .027). The GAG content in the proximal region was positively correlated with the subjective morning pain score in the patients with tendinopathy (n = 17). CONCLUSION In patients with plantar fasciitis, marked tissue vascularization was present in both the painful focal region and a neighboring nonsymptomatic area. In contrast, the accumulation of hydrophilic GAGs was greater in the symptomatic region and was positively correlated with increased clinical pain levels in daily life. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The accumulation of GAGs in tissue rather than the extent of vascularization appears to be linked with the clinical degree of pain symptoms of the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Plantar fasciitis (PF) affects around 10% of the population. Prefabricated orthotics with arch support has been shown to provide symptom relief in PF by decreasing the repetitive stress sustained by the plantar fascia. However, prefabricated orthotics are only effective when shoes are worn, meaning the foot may be left unsupported when it is impractical to wear shoes. Using orthotic sandals in conjunction with prefabricated orthotics may increase PF symptom relief, as they can be worn inside the home, extending the period in which the foot is supported. AIM To compare the combined use of prefabricated orthotics and orthotic sandals vs the sole use of prefabricated orthotics in the treatment of PF. METHODS 98 participants with PF were randomised into two groups. The intervention group received the Aetrex L420 Compete orthotics and the Aetrex L3000 Maui Flips (orthotic sandals), whilst the control group received the Aetrex L420 Compete orthotics only. Foot pain was assessed both by the numerical rating scale (NRS) and the pain sub-scale of the foot health status questionnaire (FHSQ). Foot functionality was measured using the function sub-scale of the FHSQ. Symptom change was measured using the global rating of change scale (GROC). RESULTS Foot pain scores measured both by NRS and FHSQ pain sub-scale showed statistically significant reductions in foot pain in both groups (P < 0.05) at six months. Both groups also reported statistically significant improvements (P < 0.05) in function as measured by the FHSQ function subscale and improvement of symptoms as measured by the GROC scale. Between-group analysis showed that the intervention group with the combined use of orthotics and orthotic sandals scored better on all four outcome measures as compared to the control group with the sole use of orthotics. However, the between-group analysis only reached statistical significance on the NRS pain score (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Combined use of prefabricated orthotics and orthotic sandals provides a greater decrease in foot pain and improvement in foot function in PF compared to using prefabricated orthotics alone.

Abstract
The pathogenesis of plantar fasciitis is unclear, which hampers the development of an effective treatment. The altered fate of plantar fascia stem/progenitor cells (PFSCs) under overuse-induced inflammation might contribute to the pathogenesis. This study aimed to isolate rat PFSCs and compared their stem cell-related properties with bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs). The effects of inflammation and intensive mechanical loading on PFSCs' functions were also examined. We showed that plantar fascia-derived cells (PFCs) expressed common MSC surface markers and embryonic stemness markers. They expressed lower Nanog but higher Oct4 and Sox2, proliferated faster and formed more colonies compared to BMSCs. Although PFCs showed higher chondrogenic differentiation potential, they showed low osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation potential upon induction compared to BMSCs. The expression of ligament markers was higher in PFCs than in BMSCs. The isolated PFCs were hence PFSCs. Both IL-1β and intensive mechanical loading suppressed the mRNA expression of ligament markers but increased the expression of inflammatory cytokines and matrix-degrading enzymes in PFSCs. In summary, rat PFSCs were successfully isolated. They had poor multi-lineage differentiation potential compared to BMSCs. Inflammation after overuse altered the fate and inflammatory status of PFSCs, which might lead to poor ligament differentiation of PFSCs and extracellular matrix degeneration. Rat PFSCs can be used as an in vitro model for studying the effects of intensive mechanical loading-induced inflammation on matrix degeneration and erroneous stem/progenitor cell differentiation in plantar fasciitis.

Abstract
The foot and the lower leg comprise the ankle joint complex. The foot is crucial for the maintenance of posture. Frequently, overuse or repeated microtrauma to the fascia causes plantar fasciitis. This review aims to suggest the efficacy of various plantar fasciitis (PF) interventions based on modifications in clinical results. This review included studies from 2019 to March 2023 identified through a systematic literature search. The measures used to predict improvement in pain, discomfort, and foot function symptoms included the Visual Analog scale, Numerical Pain Rating Scale, Pressure Point Threshold by algometer, Weight-Bearing Lunge Test by inch tape, and range of motion. The review included 20 studies that fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Therapeutic interventions included insoles, foot orthosis, foam roller stretching, manual stretching, muscle strengthening, intrinsic muscle activities, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, dry needling, laser, ultrasound, and others, which resulted in pain reduction, improved foot function, and ease of everyday routine. All therapeutic strategies used impacts resulting from minimal to maximal recovery. Various advanced approaches are more effective than conventional physical therapy. In conclusion, conservative therapeutic strategies with manual techniques, orthoses, and alternative intervention strategies can be combined to effectively relieve pain and improve function and overall results. Further high-quality studies are essential to learn more about the ideal dose, treatment approaches, and long-term impacts of these therapies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Various conservative treatment methods can be administered in the early stages of plantar fasciitis (PF). The aim of the treatment is to enable the patient to return to the physical activity as soon as possible. AIM In this study it was aimed to compare efficacies of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) and Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) on patients with PF. DESIGN A local prospective cross-sectional study SETTING: Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Outpatient Clinic of Sakarya University, Faculty of Medicine POPULATION: Patients aged 18-70 years, having ongoing heel pain for at least 3 months, and not using oral and/or parenteral corticosteroids in the last 6 months. METHODS A total of 40 patients with PF included in the current study. Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Roles and Maudsley Score (RMS), American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Association Score (AOFAS) and Foot Function Index (FFI) questionnaire were performed for all patients. ESWT and LLLT groups comprised of 22 (55%) and 18 (45%) patients, respectively. RESULTS We found significant improvements in scores based on the VAS, RMS, AOFAS, FFI in patients with PF and it was sustained for 3 months (p = 0.001, for all scores). While decrease in scores based on the VAS and FFI in LLLT group was statistically more significant compared to ESWT group (p = 0.014, p = 0.013), there was statistically less significant decrease in scores on the AOFAS in LLLT group than that of ESWT group (p = 0.032). CONCLUSIONS The results of this study indicated significant improvements in terms of pain, functional status and daily life activities following the administration of either of the treatments. Furthermore, LLLT was found to be significantly more effective for alleviating pain than ESWT in the treatment of PF.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Plantar fasciitis is a painful disorder that affects the plantar fascia of the foot, with a multifactorial aetiology. Dorsal flexion deficiency in the ankle is a risk factor for it. The provisional use of taping is described as part of conservative treatment. Dynamic Tape® is a type of tape that, adhered to muscles, allows for potential elastic energy to accumulate and dissipate later, optimizing its function. Therefore, it can offer immediate benefits while the patient awaits definitive treatment depending on the cause. OBJECTIVE To verify the effectiveness of Dynamic Tape® and the low-dye taping technique on pain intensity, ankle range of motion, and foot posture index. METHOD A randomised, double-blind clinical trial was conducted. A total of 57 subjects from the Clinical Podiatry Area of the University of Seville (Spain), clinically diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, were randomized into two groups. For one week, in the gastrocnemius-Achilles-plantar system, one group was treated with Dynamic Tape® and another group with low-dye taping. Pain, degrees of movement of dorsal flexion, and the foot posture index were measured in both groups before the intervention and one week after the intervention. A repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to explore the differences between groups. RESULTS Significant differences in the decrease in pain intensity using Dynamic Tape® were found when comparing the treatments (p = 0.015) and the foot posture index was more normal in low-dye taping (p < 0.001). In both cases, the treatment showed similar behaviour with respect to the dorsal flexion ankle movement. CONCLUSION The effectiveness of Dynamic Tape®, compared to that of the low-dye taping, has a major benefit with regard to pain intensity from fasciitis, although it does not produce changes in the ankle range of motion and foot posture index. Consequently, Dynamic Tape® can be considered a taping technique with beneficial effects on pain intensity in the provisional approach to plantar fasciitis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The current lack of agreement regarding standardized terminology in musculoskeletal and sports ultrasound presents challenges in education, clinical practice, and research. This consensus was developed to provide a reference to improve clarity and consistency in communication. METHODS A multidisciplinary expert panel was convened consisting of 18 members representing multiple specialty societies identified as key stakeholders in musculoskeletal and sports ultrasound. A Delphi process was used to reach consensus which was defined as group level agreement >80%. RESULTS Content was organized into seven general topics including: 1) General Definitions, 2) Equipment and Transducer Manipulation, 3) Anatomic and Descriptive Terminology, 4) Pathology, 5) Procedural Terminology, 6) Image Labeling, and 7) Documentation. Terms and definitions which reached consensus agreement are presented herein. CONCLUSIONS The historic use of multiple similar terms in the absence of precise definitions has led to confusion when conveying information between colleagues, patients, and third-party payers. This multidisciplinary expert consensus addresses multiple areas of variability in diagnostic ultrasound imaging and ultrasound-guided procedures related to musculoskeletal and sports medicine.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We investigated the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in lower extremity tendinopathy and plantar fasciitis on patient-reported pain and disability. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES Eligible articles in any language were identified through PubMed, Embase and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) on the 20 August 2020, references, citations and experts. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF STUDIES Only randomised controlled trials involving participants with lower extremity tendinopathy or plantar fasciitis treated with LLLT were included. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS Random effects meta-analyses with dose subgroups based on the World Association for Laser Therapy treatment recommendations were conducted. Risk of bias was assessed with the PEDro scale. RESULTS LLLT was compared with placebo (10 trials), other interventions (5 trials) and as an add-on intervention (3 trials). The study quality was moderate to high.Overall, pain was significantly reduced by LLLT at completed therapy (13.15 mm Visual Analogue Scale (VAS; 95% CI 7.82 to 18.48)) and 4-12 weeks later (12.56 mm VAS (95% CI 5.69 to 19.42)). Overall, disability was significantly reduced by LLLT at completed therapy (Standardised Mean Difference (SMD)=0.39 (95% CI 0.09 to 0.7) and 4-9 weeks later (SMD=0.32 (95% CI 0.05 to 0.59)). Compared with placebo control, the recommended doses significantly reduced pain at completed therapy (14.98 mm VAS (95% CI 3.74 to 26.22)) and 4-8 weeks later (14.00 mm VAS (95% CI 2.81 to 25.19)). The recommended doses significantly reduced pain as an add-on to exercise therapy versus exercise therapy alone at completed therapy (18.15 mm VAS (95% CI 10.55 to 25.76)) and 4-9 weeks later (15.90 mm VAS (95% CI 2.3 to 29.51)). No adverse events were reported. CONCLUSION LLLT significantly reduces pain and disability in lower extremity tendinopathy and plantar fasciitis in the short and medium term. Long-term data were not available. Some uncertainty about the effect size remains due to wide CIs and lack of large trials. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42017077511.

Abstract
Plantar fasciitis or the inflammation of the fascial lining on the plantar aspect of the foot continues to be the leading cause of heel pain for many Americans. Common causes can range from anatomical deformities such as pes planus or flat foot, biomechanical etiology such as excessive pronation of the subtalar joint, or chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes mellitus. The pathophysiology of plantar fasciitis can be either inflammatory due to vasodilation and immune system activation or non-inflammatory involving fibroblastic hypertrophy. Worsening pain of the inferior and medial heel after periods of prolonged rest and late in the day after hours of ambulation and weight-bearing activities is the most common symptom of plantar fasciitis. Common treatments for plantar fasciitis include plantar fascia stretching, physical therapy, orthotics, corticosteroid injections, and even surgery. Despite these treatment strategies, fasciitis remains a clinical problem and better treatment modalities are warranted. Late diagnosis is a common issue for prolonged and equivocal treatment and early diagnostic measures might be beneficial. In this concise review, we discussed the etiology, immunopathogenesis, current treatments of plantar fasciitis and potentially preventative measures prior to the onset of chronic treatment resistant condition.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The deep fascia is a three-dimensional continuum of connective tissue surrounding the bones, muscles, nerves and blood vessels throughout our body. Its importance in chronically debilitating conditions has recently been brought to light. This work investigates changes in these tissues in pathological settings. MATERIALS AND METHODS A state-of-the-art review was conducted in PubMed and Google Scholar following a two-stage process. A first search was performed to identify main types of deep fasciae. A second search was performed to identify studies considering a deep fascia, common pathologies of this deep fascia and the associated alterations in tissue anatomy. RESULTS We find that five main deep fasciae pathologies are chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, Dupuytren's disease, plantar fasciitis and iliotibial band syndrome. The corresponding fasciae are respectively the thoracolumbar fascia, the cervical fascia, the palmar fascia, the plantar fascia and the iliotibial tract. Pathological fascia is characterized by increased tissue stiffness along with alterations in myofibroblast activity and the extra-cellular matrix, both in terms of collagen and Matrix Metalloproteases (MMP) levels. Innervation changes such as increased density and sensitization of nociceptive nerve fibers are observed. Additionally, markers of inflammation such as pro-inflammatory cytokines and immune cells are documented. Pain originating from the deep fascia likely results from a combination of increased nerve density, sensitization and chronic nociceptive stimulation, whether physical or chemical. CONCLUSIONS The pathological fascia is characterized by changes in innervation, immunology and tissue contracture. Further investigation is required to best benefit both research opportunities and patient care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The main objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between hypercholesterolemia and Plantar Fasciitis (PF). METHODS The study includes patients who presented to the orthopedics outpatient clinic with heel pain and were diagnosed with PF. The control group was composed of patients who came to the orthopedics outpatient clinic, with complaints other than heel pain. The two groups were compared in terms of epidemiological data, total cholesterol (TC) levels, and hypercholesterolemia prevalence. We also performed an in-group analysis of PF patients in terms of age, sex, body mass index, and duration of symptoms. RESULTS There were 238 patients (mean age, 46.7) in the PF group and 240 patients (mean age, 47.9) in the control group. There was a significant difference between the PF group and the control group in TC levels (207.6 ± 47.5 versus 195.1 ± 30.1, p = 0.001). Hypercholesterolemia (TC level > 240 mg/dL) was found in 22.7% (n = 54) of the patients in the PF group whereas in the control group this rate was 10.8% (n = 26) (p < 0.001). It was seen that the TC levels were significantly higher in patients over the age of 45 in the PF group (p = 0.038). We also found that TC levels were higher in PF patients with symptoms for longer than a year (p = 0.026). CONCLUSION Significantly higher TC levels were found in PF patients in comparison with other orthopedic outpatients. Besides, being over the age of 45 and having a duration of symptoms longer than a year is associated with higher cholesterol levels for PF patients. LEVEL OF CLINICAL EVIDENCE 4.

Abstract
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is a promising treatment for plantar fasciitis (PF), however, treatment results have varied due to inconsistencies among types of shock wave treatment and devices used. This retrospective chart review includes patients who underwent ESWT using the OrthoGold 100™ shock wave device (MTS, Konstanz, Germany) for PF between January, 2013 and September, 2018. There were 108 patients (119 heels) identified, with a mean age of 51.7 ± 16.5 (Range 21-83) years. Patients were treated weekly for 3 weeks, with 2000 impulses per session at an energy flux density between 0.10 and 0.17 mJ/mm2. Mean follow-up duration was 11.5 ± 9.7 (Range 3-51) months. Mean pre-ESWT pain visual assessment scale improved from 6.7 ± 1.7 to 2.6 ± 2.7 (p < .001). The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score subscales: pain, function of daily living, function of sports and recreational activities and quality of life domains improved from 53.7 ± 14.9 to 75.7 ± 16.7 (p < .001), from 38 ± 15.2 to 71.8 ± 23 (p < .001), from 55.8 ± 16.4 to 71.4 ± 18 (p < .001), from 42.4 ± 21.5 to 59.4 ± 20.3 (p < .001) and from 44.9 ± 16.4 to 69 ± 23.9 (p < .001), respectively. Eighty-eight (81.5%) patients were satisfied with the procedure at final follow-up. Treatment of PF with unfocused shock waves was well tolerated and led to significant pain reduction, functional improvement, and patient satisfaction.

BACKGROUND The measurement of plantar fascia thickness with ultrasonography can be used for both for diagnosis and as a response-to-treatment parameter in plantar fasciitis. Furthermore, with the recent studies, red cell distribution width may be used as an inflammatory marker. Aim of this study is to investigate the association of red cell distribution width and ultrasonography on diagnosis and monitoring of treatment in patients with plantar fasciitis. METHODS Clinically diagnosed 102 patients with plantar fasciitis between the dates January 2016 to July 2018 were analysed. Hemogram, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP) and plantar fascial ultrasonography were obtained on initial evaluation and in 1 month, 2 months and 3 months of the standard nonoperative treatment; American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Hindfoot Score (AOFAS) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores were recorded. Posthoc and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used for statistical analysis on SPSS 21.0. RESULTS Red cell distribution width was correlated with plantar fascia thickness by the end of the 1 month (r=0.26, P=.013). Female sex, BMI over 30kg/m2, higher red cell distribution width and higher plantar fascia thickness were associated with plantar fasciitis on initial evaluation. Higher red cell distribution width together with higher plantar fascia thickness were also found to be a risk factor for both on initial evaluation and 1 month after treatment in plantar fasciitis. CONCLUSION This study shows that association of red cell distribution width and plantar fascia thickness can be not only a diagnostic predictor but also an indicator of treatment response in plantar fasciitis. Abstract
N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is an abundant post-transcriptional modification that can impact RNA fate via interactions with m6A-specific RNA binding proteins. Despite accumulating evidence that m6A plays an important role in modulating pluripotency, the influence of m6A reader proteins in pluripotency is less clear. Here, we report that YTHDF2, an m6A reader associated with mRNA degradation, is highly expressed in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and down-regulated during neural differentiation. Through RNA sequencing, we identified a group of m6A-modified transcripts associated with neural development that are directly regulated by YTDHF2. Depletion of YTHDF2 in iPSCs leads to stabilization of these transcripts, loss of pluripotency, and induction of neural-specific gene expression. Collectively, our results suggest YTHDF2 functions to restrain expression of neural-specific mRNAs in iPSCs and facilitate their rapid and coordinated up-regulation during neural induction. These effects are both achieved by destabilization of the targeted transcripts.

Abstract
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of chronic heel pain in adults, affecting both young active patients and older sedentary individuals. It results from repetitive stress to the plantar fascia at its origin on the medial tubercle of the calcaneus and is often associated with gastrocnemius tightness. The diagnosis can be made clinically with a focused history and physical examination; imaging is reserved for atypical presentations and those that do not respond to initial treatment. The most common presenting symptom is aching plantar heel pain, which is worst with first step in the morning or after periods of rest. Diagnosis is confirmed with point tenderness at the origin of the plantar fascia on the medial tubercle of the calcaneus. Initial treatment consists of activity modification, anti-inflammatory medication, gastrocnemius and plantar fascia stretching, and an in-shoe orthosis that lifts and cushions the heel. These nonoperative treatments lead to complete resolution of pain in 90% of patients but can take 3-6 months. Patients who remain symptomatic despite a 6-month trial of nonoperative therapy may be considered for minimally invasive treatment or surgery. Platelet-rich plasma injections and therapeutic ultrasound are among a number of minimally invasive treatments that stimulate the body's healing response. Corticosteroid injections temporarily relieve pain, but may increase the risk of plantar fascia rupture and fat pad atrophy. Botulinum toxin injections relax the calf muscles, which decreases the stress in the plantar fascia. Operative treatments include gastrocnemius recession and medial head of gastrocnemius release, which decrease the stress on the plantar fascia and partial planter fasciotomy, which stimulates a healing response. Abstract
BACKGROUND Shock-wave therapy (SWT) has been widely applied and proven to be an effective treatment in ameliorating symptoms of plantar fasciitis (PF). Ultrasound therapy (UT) is another common treatment of PF, and several researches have documented its advantages when compared to corticosteroid injection. Despite this, few studies have focused on comparing the use of SWT and UT in the treatment of PF. The purpose of our meta-analysis is to evaluate whether SWT is better than UT in managing PF, both in terms of ameliorating pain and improving functionality. METHODS A systematic search of the literature was conducted to identify relevant articles that were published in Pubmed, Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library, SpringerLink, Clinical Trials.gov and OVID from the databases' inception to October 2018. All studies comparing the efficacy of SWT and UT in terms of pain levels and functionality improvement were included. Data on the two primary outcomes were collected and analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS Five studies were included in the current meta-analysis. A significant difference in VAS score (MD = - 13.14, Cl - 14.07 to - 12.75 P < 0.00001, I2 = 100%) was noted between the SWT group and the UT group. No significant difference was seen in the AOFAS (MD = 3.19, Cl - 1.72 to 8.10 P = 0.20, I2 = 100%); FFI or PFPS score was not found significant difference either (SMD = - 1.17, Cl - 4.45 to 2.10 P = 0.48, I2 = 96%). CONCLUSIONS The results from this meta-analysis highlight the effectiveness of both SWT and UT in the treatment of PF. Although inter-group differences were not significant, the VAS score was better improved in the SWT group, suggesting that SWT may be a superior alternative for the treatment of PF.
