Dr. A K M Monwarul Islam MD is the Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Non-invasive Cardiology of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Islam is a renowned academician as well as a reputed clinician of his country. He is fond of teaching and committed to research activity in cardiology. He likes medical writing as well. He graduated from Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1997, obtained Fellowship in Internal Medicine (FCPS) in 2004, and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Cardiology in 2006. He undertook his postgraduate training at NICVD), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He became an Assistant Professor of Cardiology in 2013 and served at Jessore Medical College and Sir Salimullah Medical College of Bangladesh from 2013 to 2017. Dr. Islam returned to NICVD, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2017 and was promoted to Associate Professor in the same year. Dr. Islam is a known figure in Echocardiography in Bangladesh. He was the co-investigator of the IAMI trial presented in ESC Congress 2021 and is involved in the 'Global Heart Attack Treatment Initiative (GHATI) Survey.' of the American College of Cardiology. He contributed to the books ‘Interesting Cases in Echocardiography', “Advances in CLOT Treatment (ACT): A Textbook of Cardiology”. . Dr. Islam is the recipient of the "Publons Peer Review Award 2018' and the 'Most Comprehensive Reviewer Award – International' for the Indian Heart Journal Reviewer Award Session in 2015 in the UK. He is a regular Reviewer of different journals including Indian Heart Journal, IHJ Cardiovascular Case Reports, PLOS ONE, BMC Cardiovascular Disorders, BMJ Open, BMJ Research Notes, Scientific Reports, Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, Journal of Indian College of Cardiology, CASE: Cardiovascular Imaging Case Reports, Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, Pediatrics, Asia Pacific Journal of Public Health, Medical Journal of Dr. D.Y. He is also a Reviewer of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), the United Kingdom government agency which funds research into health and care. He is specially interested in research related to the existing issues of South Asian ethnicity. Dr. Islam is actively involved in Post-Graduate training. He runs an independent unit at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is the Academic Course Coordinator of the Post-Graduate courses of the Institute. He is fond of traveling and reading.
