Dr. Takatoshi Kasai is an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Juntendo University School of Medicine and Cardiovascular Respiratory Sleep Medicine at the Juntendo University Graduate School of Medicine investigating the relationship between sleep disordered breathing and cardiovascular diseases including hypertension. He obtained his MD from the Juntendo University in 1998 after which he began his residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He also obtained his PhD in 2006 from Juntendo University, majoring in Life Functions of the Human Body with a Subject of Specialization in Cardiovascular Medicine. He has acted as a staff physician in the in the Sleep Center of Toranomon Hospital from 2006 to 2008. Subsequently, he did a research fellowship at the Sleep Research Laboratory of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and Centre for Sleep Medicine and Circadian Biology at the University of Toronto. During this time, he was involved extensively in research in the area of sleep medicine, heart failure and hypertension with Prof. T. Douglas Bradley. His research interest includes sleep disordered breathing and cardiovascular disease; sleep disordered breathing and hypertension; heart failure and positive airway pressure treatment; and secondary prevention of acute decompensated heart failure.
