Alexey V. Polonikov, Doctor of Medical Science, Professor, Director of Research Institute for Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology, Kursk State Medical University, Kursk, Russia. I am experienced for a long time in Genetic Epidemiology of socially important diseases such as respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, reproductive system disorders and other common diseases. Major research focuses on ecological genetic aspects of multifactorial diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, ischemic stroke, coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, essential hypertension, bronchial asthma, pancreatitis and reproductive disorders. The research ranges from studies on genetic epidemiology, biochemical investigations of metabolism and biomarkers, statistical genetics and bioinformatics to clinically oriented studies focused on the development of personalized approaches to diagnosis, management and prevention of multifactorial diseases. The member of the editorial board of international biomedical journals such as Life, Frontiers in Genetics, Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences. Frontiers in Bioscience-Scholar. I have published over 100 scientific articles in academic journals as either the first author or the corresponding author. Delivered over 30 speeches at international academic conferences. Principal Investigator for more than 10 international and national research grants. Nominated as "Professor of the Year 2020" in Medical Sciences (Russian award). H-index is 37 with 7801 citations (Google Scholar). A reviewer for over 70 international biomedical journals. Molecular genetic mechanisms that regulate redox homeostasis and their contribution to the development of multifactorial diseases, along with the ecological and toxicogenetic aspects of disease etiology and pathogenesis, are critical areas of research. This includes investigating gene-gene and gene-environment interactions in the development of multifactorial diseases, functional annotating gene polymorphisms, and modeling the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases using various bioinformatics approaches. Languages: Russian and English. My hobbies are traveling, engaging in outdoor activities, fishing, and foraging for mushrooms.
