Stavros Dimopoulos received his Medical degree from the University of Brescia in Italy in 2001 and his PhD degree from the Medical School of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (UOA), Greece, in 2008. He has specialized in Internal Medicine at the Clinical Therapeutics, “Alexandra” Hospital of UOA, Greece (2010), and in Critical Care Medicine at the 1st Critical Care Medicine Department, UOA, “Evaggelismos” Hospital (2013) and obtained the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (2015). In 2014 he worked as a Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care, at “Addenbrooke’s” Hospital, Cambridge, UK. He has completed a one-year Subspecialty rotation in Intensive Care Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals [General ICU “John Farman ICU”, Pediatric ICU, Neuro Critical Care Unit, Cardiothoracic ICU (“Papworth” hospital)], (2014-2015). He has thereafter completed a one-year “Severe Respiratory Failure-ECMO” Fellowship in Critical Care Unit at Guys & St Thomas Hospital in London, UK (2015-2016).Currently he is working as a Cardiac Surgery ICU Consultant at Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens, Greece. He has been continuously involved at the teaching of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate medical doctors, and since 2011 he has been organizing courses and seminars in the field of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) and since 2018 in the field of Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). He has been involved as a Principal Investigator and Co-investigator of the research activities of CPET and Rehabilitation Laboratory of 1st Critical Care Medicine department, UOA. His main research interests include Critical Care Medicine, CPET applications, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation in Critical ill patients, microcirculation, exercise training, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy, Lung Sonography, Chronic Heart Failure, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Left Ventricle Assist Device, ECMO. He is the President and founding member of the Greek Society of Ergospirometry, Exercise & Rehabilitation and member of scientific societies including ESICM/EACPR/Heart Failure Association/ESC/ELSO. He is currently reviewer for more than 40 international scientific peer-reviewed journals, for NIHR and member of the Editorial Board of more than 20 international peer-reviewed open-access scientific journals. He has coauthored in more than 60 papers in international peer-reviewed refereed journals, 9 chapters in books, and more than 100 abstracts in international congresses.
