I started my academic career in the field of surgery of hepatobiliary and pancreas cancer in 1993. I personally performed more than 700 hepatectomies and more than 400 pancreatectomies (including 250 pancreatoduodenectomies) and nearly 70 major hepatectomy plus bile duct resection for perihilar cholangioarcinoma during the last 16 years. Laparoscopic hepatectomy and laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy are included in that figures. Regarding hepatectomy for primary liver cancer, anatomical hepatectomy along either the major hepatic venous system or more recently the Glissonean cord is the principle I follow. In the field of pancreatobiliary surgery, my interest is nowadays focusing on the combined arterial resection to achieve a margin negative resection. This work is inspired by liver transplantation. Since 2002, I performed more than 150 cases of liver transplantation which includes living donor liver transplantation as well as deceased donor liver transplantation. In addition I performed more than 150 adrenalectomies, mostly laparoscopically. I got scientific awards of Korean Association of HBP Surgery 2 times with theses on combined inferior vena cava resection during pancreatoduodenectomy in 2010 and intraoperative management of blood flow to the liver and stomach during distal pancreatectomy with en-bloc celiac axis resection in 2013. I got the Ulsan City Academic Award of the Year in 2014. I am now the Vice President and Chief Education Officer of Ulsan University Hospital, University of Ulsan College of Medicine. Currently I am a board member of the Korean Surgical Society, Korean Society for Organ Transplantation and Korean Liver Transplantation Society.
