Differences in gut microbiota between males and females are suggested to contribute to various chronic diseases, including gastrointestinal, metabolic, neurological, cardiovascular, and respiratory illnesses, as well as sex-specific changes in immunity. The editorial highlights the ongoing research in the field, revealing new opportunities for innovative approaches in preventive and precision medicine.
