A typical chemical synapse usually consists of three parts: (1) Presynaptic membrane including clusters of neurotransmitter-filled synaptic vesicles, mitochondria, and so on; (2) Postsynaptic membrane including neurotransmitter-specific receptors; and (3) Synaptic cleft.
