In 2017, the World Journal of Gastroenterology (WJG) has published the 43rd issue which containing 16 articles including 1 editorial, 2 reviews, 11 original articles, 1 meta-analysis and 1 case report contributed by scientists worldwide. Among these comprehensive articles are (1) “Noncoding RNAs as drivers of the phenotypic plasticity of oesophageal mucosa”, an editorial by  Edoardo Savarino, MD, PhD, et al from Gastroenterology Unit, Department of Surgical Oncology and Gastroenterology, University of Padua, Italy; (2) “Functional interaction of endoplasmic reticulum stress and hepatitis B virus in the pathogenesis of liver diseases”, a review by  Jaehun Cheong, PhD, et al from Department of Molecular Biology, Pusan National University, South Korea; and (3) “How severe is moderately severe acute pancreatitis? Clinical validation of revised 2012 Atlanta Classification”, a prospective study by Zilvinas Dambrauskas, MD, PhD, Professor, et al from Department of Surgery, Medical Academy, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Lithuania, etc. We invite you to peruse all 16 articles in this issue, as they present the latest research progress/findings and provide insightful comments in gastroenterology and hepatology that will guide basic research and clinical practice in these fields.
