Dr. Tamizh Selvan G has done his Ph.D in Radiation Biology from the Department of Human Genetics,SRIHER (Deemed to be University), Chennai, India, in the year 2015. He has joined K S Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, Karnataka. Initially he has gained confidence on the culture and scoring of the GOLD standard "Chromosomal aberration assay" for biological dosimetry; he sandwiched between two laboratories to establish the assay and part of inter-laboratory comparison exercise, first of its kind at national level (Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 92: 85, 90, 2014). In parallel, he has extended his research focus into an alternative tool the "Micronucleus assay (MN)” due to its rapidity in the analysis and automation. During the tenure of his doctoral research, he has demonstrated that (i) external variables like delayed sampling time influences the yield of radiation induced MN and dose estimation (Dose response, 12; 498-508, 2014) and (ii) fluorescence staining of binuclated cells provide a better dose estimation than giemsa stained preparation using Metafer, an automated imaging system used in dosimetry laboratories (Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 97:70-77, 2015). Towards the completion of thesis objectives, he also generated evidences that genetic makeup of an individual influences the yield of DNA damage; DNA damaging agent can be predicated to some extent in unknown exposure using MN assay. He has over Eight years of continuous Research Experience inclusive of three years post-doc from CEA, France. He has published 31 research articles in peer-reviewed, indexed reputed international journals and 1 book chapter to his credit. So far, he has received 233 citations with an h-index of 10 and i10-index of 11. He is a Life Member of Society for Radiation Research (SRR), Indian Association for Radiation Protection (IARP), Indian Society of Human Genetics (ISHG), Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists (IABMS) and The Cytometry Society-India. He has reviewed 19 manuscripts in internationally reputed journals includes, International journal of Biological Macromolecules, Journal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Journal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Medical Hypotheses, Heliyon, Mutation Research - Genetic Toxicology and Environmental Mutagenesis. He is the recipient of “SERB International Research Experience (SIRE) fellowship, award SERB, Govt of India, in May-2022 and 'Enhanced Eurotalents Award (FP7 Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND Programme, 2014-2018)', France in March-2016. He has also co-authored 1 book. He is the Principal Investigator for Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Govt. of India funded research project. Areas of Interest: Radiation biodosimetry, Radiation biology, Biological response markers of radiation exposure (Chromosome aberrations, micronucleus, translocations, gamma-H2AX assay), Oxidative stress biomarkers, Cytogenetics, DNA damage response and repair.
