Dr. Valerio Nardone is 35 years old and he graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Siena in 2010. In June 2011, he started the Residency School of Radiation Oncology, directed by Prof. Luigi Pirtoli and he literally fell in love with this Specialty. During the residency school he specialized in the clinical management of cancer patients, performing both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He had also the opportunity to see the recent developments of immunotherapy and performed also data collection for many retrospective studies, thus enhancing his knowledge of statistics software. After the Residency School, he continued working at University Hospital of Siena as an external collaborator and I obtained in September 2018 a Master Degree in “Radiotherapy and new drugs: biology and clinic” at Brescia University. In October 2018, he started a permanent job at Unit of Radiation Oncology of Ospedale del Mare, Naples, where he had the opportunity of further study the technical aspects of radiotherapy, with the use of dedicated techniques such as 4D-CT, Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR), Brain and Lung cancer. More recently, he obtained the national scientific qualification as Associate Professor (procedure for the Italian University Professor position recruiting, based on rigorous scientific qualification criteria). Dr. Nardone’ contribution to radiotherapy and oncology focuses on different disease, such as brain cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and gastrointestinal cancer. In particular, in the last years his research has dealt with the application of texture analysis (radiomics) in different clinical contexts. At the same time, he is studying complementary and alternative medicine in oncology, with a focus on medical humanities programs such as music therapy. He is author and co-author of more than 45 papers in peer-reviewed journals, as well oral communications and posters in international and national congresses. He won AIRB Award 2017 (Best Oral Communication) at AIRO National Congress 2017, as well as AIRO Award for Best Young Project at AIRO National Congress 2019.
