Dr. Zerem is Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Tuzla School of Medicine and Director for Research and Education at the University Clinical Center Tuzla. He received his medical degree from the University of Belgrade, Serbia and became Specialist of Internal Medicine (1983) and Gastroenterology (1988). He received his Master of Science degree in 1991 and his PhD degree in 1994, both from the University of Tuzla, Bosnia. His research interests focus on the diagnosis and treatment of acute pancreatitis, the application of interventional ultrasound in gastroenterology and hepatology, acid-related disorders, and viral hepatitis. Also, his focus is on scientific publishing and science metrics systems and he has published several articles about scientific publishing and science metrics systems. Dr. Zerem has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed articles, reviews and book chapters. He became the Head of Doctoral Studies at the University of Tuzla School of Medicine in 2011. Dr. Zerem was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2012. He currently serves on the editorial boards of scientific journals World Journal of Gastroenterology, Balkan Medical Journal, Euroasian Journal of Hepatology and Gastroenterology and Acta Medica Academica and as a reviewer for several prestigious scientific journals.
