Dr. Uhlmann is a distinguished professor at the medical faculty of Leipzig Medical University, Germany. After receiving his MD degree from Leipzig Medical University in 1996, Dr. Uhlmann completed a research stay at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster as a scholarship holder from the renowned National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. He completed his postgraduate training at the Leipzig Medical University Hospital. In 2003, he learned pancreas transplantation at the University of Madison, Wisconsin. Since 2006 he has headed the pancreas transplantation program at the University of Leipzig and in 2007 became senior physician for visceral transplant surgery. He became a lecturer at the Leipig Medical University in 2004. He was promoted to professor in 2009 at the School of Medicine at the Leipzig Medical University. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 2012. His current research interests include liver and pancreatic ischemia and reperfusion, transplant surgery and hepatocellular carcinoma. He is a member of the editorial board and reviewer of several scientific journals and has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles. He is currently the chief surgeon for surgery at Döbeln Hospital.
