Dr Ciotti received his degree in Medicine in 1989 at the University La Sapienza of Rome, Italy. He undertook his postgraduate training at the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA from 1992 to 1999. He currently works as clinical virologist in the Virology Unit of the Polyclinic Tor Vergata Foundation. His ongoing research interests are human papillomavirus carcinogenesis, role of human polyomaviruses in immunocompromised patients, molecular diagnosis of viral hepatitis (particularly HCV and HBV). Dr Ciotti is Editor-in-Chief of The Open Virology Jornal and member of the editorial board of several scientific journals of the field. He co-authored books and published more than one-hundred in peer-review scientific journals.
