I am Sebastien Kenmoe, PhD. I serve as a Lecturer at the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology, University of Buea, Cameroon, and as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Global Health, University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. I am specializing in evidence-based synthesis with a focus on acute respiratory infections in resource-limited settings. My work aims to impact policy and practice by providing reliable data on disease burden, particularly in Africa. I was awarded the AREF/EDCTP Fellowship, facilitating my collaboration with the Centre for Global Health, University of Edinburgh, to conduct evidence synthesis for acute viral infections across Africa. This enabled me to generate significant data on the burden of acute respiratory viral infections both regionally and globally. Distinguished from others in my field, I have utilized my role as the principal investigator of the AREF/EDCTP Fellowships to foster capacity building by organizing a training workshop on systematic reviews for Ph.D. students and young researchers in Cameroon. This initiative led to the creation of a systematic review training group within Cameroon, supporting numerous young African researchers in conducting their first systematic reviews. Furthermore, I have established an international collaboration with experts from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy, focusing on wastewater-based epidemiology for viral infections, including SARS-CoV-2. This collaboration underscores my commitment to extending the impact of my work beyond local settings, contributing to global health knowledge and practices. I am an accomplished researcher with significant contributions to epidemiological studies on respiratory tract pathogens and systematic reviews in acute viral respiratory infections, viral hepatitis, and neglected tropical diseases. I have authored 74 articles, including 34 as the first or corresponding author. My scholarly work has garnered considerable recognition, as reflected by my Google Scholar citations totaling 1749 and an H-index of 19. I have presented at two international academic conferences. My research excellence has been acknowledged with several prestigious awards and fellowships, including the Centre for Open Science Flu Lab Prize in 2020 for the Null Results award and multiple doctoral and master fellowships from the French government and the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon. In 2020, I was the principal investigator for the EDCTP Preparatory Fellowships, TMA2019PF-2705 – VARIAFRICA, focusing on Viral Acute Respiratory Infections in Africa. I am actively involved in professional associations, serving as the president and founder of the Evidence-based Synthesis Training Association (ESTA) in Cameroon since March 2022 and as a member of the International Society of Global Health since April 2021. I have made substantial contributions to the academic community as an Academic Editor for PLOS One and an Associate Editor for Systematic Reviews. My editorial responsibilities have allowed me to deepen my engagement with evolving scientific research and methodologies. I have peer-reviewed over 100 articles for a variety of respected journals, including African Health Sciences, Biomed Research International, BMC Pediatrics, Clinical Epidemiology and Global Health, Epidemiology and Infection, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Journal of Infection and Public Health, PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, and The Lancet Respiratory Medicine. This extensive reviewing activity underlines my commitment to enhancing the quality and integrity of published research. Despite my active role in journal editorial processes, I have not authored any editorials for academic journals, focusing instead on peer review and editorial oversight. I am committed to refining my clinical research and evidence synthesis skills. My long-term research interests are deeply rooted in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), where I aim to shape research agendas and contribute significantly to this critical field. I am keen on solidifying my understanding of next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. I plan to establish and expand collaborations with local health authorities and international research bodies. I am dedicated to taking on more leadership roles in research projects and mentoring young researchers, with the goal of potentially securing funding for a dedicated mentorship program. My career objectives include achieving a senior academic position at the University of Buea, where I can influence research directions, secure consistent funding, and mentor a new generation of researchers. I aspire to develop and lead multi-country research projects on AMR and use my credibility, established through my publication record and conference presentations, to form international partnerships. Ultimately, I aim to become an influential voice in shaping public health policy and practice regarding AMR, particularly in resource-limited settings. I am a researcher with a strong foundation in overseeing research activities, including formulating research questions, conducting independent studies, and managing ethical processes and operational guidelines. My expertise extends to evidence-based synthesis, where I excel in advanced article search strategies, selection, data extraction, and analysis. I have established and lead a team focused on systematic reviews and meta-analysis, contributing to significant advancements in medical research in Cameroon. As a Regional Study Manager for the European Union's EDCTP Program and Project Manager for surveillance studies, I have honed my management skills, overseeing multidisciplinary teams, budgets, and project deliverables. My role as an Assistant Lecturer has further solidified my mentoring capabilities, supporting doctoral and master's students in various aspects of their research. My professional skill set includes excellent active listening. I am known for my ability to maintain professional relationships and leadership qualities. My problem-solving skills ensure efficient project execution and innovation in tackling challenges within research settings. I enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors, reading scientific literature, and spending quality time on walks or vacations with my family and friends.
