Frank J.M.F. Dor, MD PhD FEBS (hon) FRCS , studied Medicine in Antwerp (Belgium) and at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands). He obtained his medical degree cum laude. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Transplantation Biology Research Center of the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, where he conducted translational research in the field of transplant immunology with Prof. Dr David Cooper and Prof. Dr David Sachs. This work resulted in his PhD thesis entitled “Investigations relating to the induction of immunological tolerance through spleen transplantation in miniature swine” that he defended cum laude. He was trained as a surgeon and transplant surgeon at the Erasmus MC Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He worked as a Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Surgical Director of Kidney Transplantation at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, the largest live donor kidney transplant programme in Europe, and one of the leading centres in the world, until January 2016. In January 2016, he joined the Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College London, UK, as Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Head of Transplantation. He is an active clinical scientist (live kidney donation, evidence based medicine, kidney transplantation, and peritoneal dialysis), and translational scientist (immunomodulation, ischemic conditioning, and ischaemia-reperfusion injury). Frank Dor is also a passionate educationalist. He has served until recently as Chair of the education committee of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) for six years,  and Initiator and Director of the Live Donor Nephrectomy Course (LIDO course), Senior Secretary of the UEMS Division of Transplant Surgery  responsible for the European Board Exams and accreditation of European Transplant Centres, and Activity Director of the European Chapter of the ISPD Peritoneal Dialysis University for Surgeons. He is a Council member of ESOT with portfolios Ambassadorship and Communication. He is Board Member of ELPAT (Ethical, Legal, and Psychosocial Aspects of Transplantation), a section of ESOT, and co-chair of the Living Organ Donation Working Group of ELPAT. Frank is a Member of the European Surgical Association (ESA), was Council member and president-elect of the Dutch Transplant Society, Secretary General of the European Society for Surgical Research (ESSR), and has served in the Scientific Advisory Board of the Dutch Kidney Foundation. He is Advisor to the Peter Morris Centre of Evidence in Transplantation, and member of the Steering Committee of the NHS Blood and Transplant Clinical Trials Unit. Frank is the Chair of the ISPD guidelines for Peritoneal Dialysis Access. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Clinical Ethics Committee of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He was member of the scientific programme committee of the ESOT congress 2017. Currently, he is an associate editor of Transplantation (and past Social Media Editor), European Surgical Research, Academic Editor of PLOS One, and editorial board member of more than 10 scientific journals. He has published widely in peer reviewed journals and contributed several book chapters on transplantation and peritoneal dialysis.
