Figure 1 Classic veno arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in an infant with cannulation of the right internal jugular vein draining blood by gravity to a roller pump that generates non pulsatile flow to a membrane oxygenator.
Oxygenated blood is returned to the aorta by a catheter inserted in the right internal carotid artery.
