Dr. Santomauro is a Distinguished Professor in the School of Medicine, Federico II Medical University, Naples-Italy. Having received his MD degree from Federico II Medical University in 1980, Dr. Santomauro undertook his postgraduate training at the Federico II Medical University Hospital and has been an Attending Physician in the Cardiology Division, Department of Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Cardiac Surgery since 1981. He became a Assistant Professor of Federico II Medical University in 1982. After a three-half years research fellowship at Federico II University Naples under the instruction of Professor Massimo Chiariello (1981 to 1991), Dr. Santomauro obtained his Postgraduate in Internal Medicine degree in 1985, Cardiology degree in 1988 and Biomedical Thechnologies degree in 1991. His ongoing research interests are cardiac pacing and defibrillation theraphy (particularly rate responsive pacemaker and out of hospital defibrillation), Syncope therapy, Sick Sinus Syndrome therapy and Resuscitation theraphy after cardiac arrest (ECMO and ipothermia. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Aritmologia e Cardiostimolazione Journal of Medical Sciences, a member of the editorial boards and a reviewer of several scientific journals, and has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Santomauro served as the Director of the Cardiostimulation Ambulatory, Federico II Medical University (1999 to 2018) and served as President of the Gruppo Intervento Emergenze Cardiologiche Association for the Study of the Cardiovascular Emergency (2010 to 2018). Currently, he is the Director of the Pacing and ICD Ambulatory, Department of Cardiovascular Emergency, Internal Medicine, Geriatric, Federico II Medical University Hospital of Naples,Italy.
