Dr. Gopalakrishnan (Dr. Gopal) did his entire Dentistry BDS & MDS in Periodontology at Rajah Muthiah Dental College &Hospital, Annamalai University, India mentored by the famous Dental Surgeon & Dean, Late Dr. B. Srinivasan.   He has completed his PhD at Thammasat University, Thailand mentored under the Global Luminary in Periodontal Plastic Surgery - Dr. P.D. Miller & is the First Life member of the Indian Society of Periodontology to have an International Ph.D.   He is currently working as the Dean, Professor &Head (Chair), Department of Periodontology at Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College & Hospital, Dr.D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (University) in Pune, India. He has also held position of Director (Research & Collaborations) of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (University), Pune, India.   He is the Indian Ambassador & an International member of The American Academy of Periodontology” since last 19 years. Dr. Gopalakrishnan has been the only Indian & International member to be continuously invited as a speaker at the Research Forums 15 times and three times at the prestigious Innovations in Periodontics Forum in the year 2017, 2018 & 2019 since the year 2002 at the American Academy of Periodontology Annual Meetings held at USA & Canada.   He was awarded a commendation from the then AAP President Dr. Donald Clem at the 97th American Academy of Periodontology Annual Meeting in 2011 at Miami, FL, USA for 10 years of continuous presentations at the American Academy of Periodontology Annual Meetings at the Research Forums Sessions.   He is the Board Member & Indian Ambassador of the International Society of Periodontal Plastic Surgeons, USA & has lectured at the Society’s Annual Meetings.   He has received the Indian Professional Health Award for Excellence in Dental Innovations in Periodontology in 2019. He has received International Dental Excellence Award in 2018 for Excellence in Dental Research in the field of Periodontology.     He has held the position of Executive Committee Member (Board Member) of the Indian Society of Periodontology from the period 2013-2018 & currently he has served as an office bearer of the Indian Society of Periodontology in the capacity as the Scientific Program Convenor of the Society in from 2018-2019.    He has held faculty appointments at leading prestigious institutions In India & Abroad.   He has also lectured at several other International forums in USA, Canada, Europe, Asia, Far East, Africa & the Middle east in the past 1 & ½ decades.   He has been invited twice by the famous International Sun TV network for a live chat show tele-interaction with the public across the globe on Oral Health & diseases in 2004 & 2005.   He has several publications to his credit in leading International Journals & leading Indian Newspapers.   He is also in the editorial board & peer reviewing committee of leading Journals.
