Mohd Normani Zakaria is currently the Chairman of Academic Program and an Associate Professor of Audiology, School of Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He obtained a degree in Master of Clinical Audiology from The University of Western Australia in 2003 and PhD in 2007 from the same University. He teaches in various aspects of audiology and otology for undergraduate and postgraduate students. His research focus is on diagnostic audiology, auditory physiology, neuro-otology, electrophysiology, central auditory disorders, vestibular, tinnitus, noise exposure and biostatistics studies. He has authored and co-authored over 113 peer-reviewed articles and 25 research book chapters. He likes to share his knowledge and has presented his research findings in many seminars, conferences and workshops held locally and internationally (a total of 150 invited talks on specialized topics). Prof. Zakaria is working collaboratively with engineers and medical experts in developing innovative products for hearing, tinnitus and vestibular applications. He also has a deep interest in biostatistics and is currently studying the usefulness of Bayesian inference in statistical analyses. His research achievements have been further recognized in which he has been appointed as an Editorial Board Member of many internationally indexed journals and a reviewer for many indexed journals (a total of 160 reviewed manuscripts). To keep him further active, Prof. Zakaria has supervised over 150 research projects for doctorate, master’s and undergraduate degrees. He has also won gold and silver medal awards for his inventions in the field of neuro-otology. In year 2012, he established the first Malaysian Tinnitus Clinic that emphasizes on a multi-disciplinary approach between clinical professionals.
