Dr. Menelaos Zafrakas was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1969. He graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1993 and received the degree "Doctor of Medicine" (“Doktor der Medizin”) from the University of Hamburg, Germany in 2001. He is a specialist in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Greece 2004, Germany 2005) with special interest in the field of Breast Surgery - Fellow of the European Board of Surgery – Breast Surgery” (FEBS-BS).In 2009 he was elected Lecturer in the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Associate Professor in the School of Health and Medical Care of the Alexander Technological Educational Institute (ATEI) of Thessaloniki in the field of "Obstetrics and Gynecology". Since 2014, he is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, between 2013 and 2017 Head of Department and since 2015 Chairman of the Bioethics Committee of the ATEI of Thessaloniki. His scientific activity has led thus far to numerous publications (>60 papers in international journals, with >1,000 citations, impact factor >125 and h-index 16; 35 papers in Greek journals; numerous chapters in books and teaching notes; editor of the Greek edition of an international textbook on Breast Surgery; >150 presentations in national and international congresses). He is a reviewer in 63 international scientific journals and he has significant participation in international research programs. Since 2006 he serves as Secretary General of the German-Greek Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and since 2015 as Secretary General of the Greek Gynecologic Society for Breast Disease.
