Gabriel Sandblom is associate professor and senior consultant at the department of surgery, Södersjukhuset, Stockholm, Sweden. He has experience from upper abdominal surgery and is presently working at the unit of acute abdominal surgery. His research is mainly focused on abdominal wall surgery, acute pancreatitis and gallstone surgery. He is board member of the Swedish Register for gallstone surgery (GallRiks), Swedish Hernia Register (SHR), Swedish Society for Innovative Surgical Technology (SIKT) and Committee for Clinical Research of the Swedish Surgical Society (KKF). He is the principal investigator on studies focused on hernia prevention, management of acute pancreatitis and acute cholecystitis. He also has an interest in prostate cancer and has presented one of the first randomised controlled trials of prostate cancer screening. In studies based on the Swedish Hernia Register he has explored factors involved in the development of chronic postoperative pain.
