The figure shows the different fixation techniques evaluated in this study. Commonly used unicortical screw fixation with only a short anchoring distance and experimental intraprosthetic fixation with superior primary fixation stability.

The regular straight stem prosthesis was implanted into sawbones using bone cement. A Vancouver B1 fracture was then simulated and the construct was mounted on a testing device using a custom made angular stable fixation. Constantly increasing axial loading was then performed.
