Dr. Enrico Pola (M.D., Ph.D.) received his medical degree with summa cum laude from the Catholic University of Rome School of Medicine (Rome, Italy) in 1999. He received the titles of Specialist in Orthopaedic and Traumatology and Ph.D. in Orthopaedic Sciences from the Catholic University of Rome School of Medicine (Rome, Italy). In 2004, Dr. Pola completed a 2-year research and clinical fellowship at the Center for Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Department of Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry and Department of Orthopaedics of the University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA. In 2006, he obtained the position of Assistant Professor at Catholic University of Rome Medical School in Rome, Italy. In 2012 he obtained the position of Full Professor at the National Scientific Qualification. Dr. Pola is serving as Assistant Professor in the Division of Spine Surgery of the Department of Orthopaedic and Traumatology at Catholic University of Rome, Italy. He is member of AOSpine Italian Council, where he has served as Research Chairperson, and member of Italian Spine Society (SICV&GIS) Board of Directors. Dr. Pola is also member of the American Society of Gene Therapy, Italian Society of Orthopaedic and Traumatology (SIOT), Italian Spine Society (SICV&GIS) and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is member of the Editorial Boards of 5 international journals and ad hoc reviewer for 15 international journals. He has over 65 indexed publications (h-index=19) and he has published several book chapters on orthopaedics and spine surgery. He took part in several international research projects and he obtained many international awards, including the Telethon Foundation Award in 2002 and the ISSLS Award in 2012. Dr. Pola is serving as surgeon in the Division of Spine Surgery, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the “A. Gemelli” University Hospital in Rome, Italy, where he has over 1000 surgical procedures as first surgeon.
