Federico A. Grassi was born in Milano (Italy) in 1961. He completed medical school (1986) and orthopaedic surgery residency (1991) at the University of Pavia (Italy). After having achieved ECFMG certification, he completed a shoulder fellowship with Dr. Charles Rockwood in San Antonio (Texas, USA). From 1993 to 2008 he worked at the University of Insubria in Varese, where he progressed from assistant professor (1995) to associate professor (2001) and finally to full professor (2005) of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Since 2008 he has been professor and chairman of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Unit at the University of East Piedmont in Novara (Italy). He served as President of the Italian Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (2015-16) and is member of the executive committee of the Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Prof. Grassi has published 110 peer-reviewed articles, 27 chapters of scientific textbooks, 5 monographs and one didactic textbook. His research interests include topics in both clinical and basic sciences. The surgical practice is mainly focused on shoulder surgery, hip and knee replacement, and limb traumatology.
