Armando Rojas is Professor of Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine at the Medicine Faculty, Catholic University of Maule, Talca, Chile. He is the director of the Biomedical Research Labs. Dr. Rojas received his Licenciate degree in Biological Sciences, mention in Genetics, from Havana University in 1982 and his PhD degree 1989 from National Center for Scientific Research, Havana, Cuba in a joint program with the Czech Academy of Sciences. He spent a postdoctoral stay at the Immunology Unit, Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research, Milan, Italy. In 2005 he moved out from Cuba, where he was the Chair of the Pharmacology and Toxicology Division, at the Center of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Dr. Rojas′s research interests are in the area of inflammation, vascular biology and tumor biology, mainly focused on the role of the receptor of advanced glycation end-products (RAGE). On this topic, he has extensively contributed to the role of RAGE on physiopathology consequences of hyperglycemia. One of his current research interests is focused on the association of diabetes and cancer. He has published over 110 peer-review articles and book chapters
