Dr. Sakkarin Chirapongsathorn is a hepatologist, gastroenterologist, researcher, and Associate Professor of Phramongkutklao College of Medicine, Bangkok, Thailand. The broad goals of his research are to determine treatments to improve survival, quality of care, and quality of life of patients with liver diseases. Dr. Chirapongsathorn's published work is diverse but largely unified by the theme of identifying patients at risk for mortality in fatty liver, hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis and other liver diseases.
Dr. Chirapongsathorn received his MD degree from Khon Kaen University in 2005, and undertook his board certify internal medicine residency training and board certify gastroenterology fellowship training at Phramongkutklao Hospital and College of Medicine. He became a lecturer of Phramongkutklao Hospital and College of Medicine in 2012. After two-half year clinical experience and research fellowship at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN USA under the instruction of Professors Patrick Kamath and Vijay Shah (2013 to 2016), Dr. Chirapongsathorn returned to Phramongkutklao Hospital and College of Medicine. He was promoted to Associate Professor in Phramongkutklao College of Medicine in 2019. His ongoing research interests are nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) & nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. He is also served as the Deputy Medical Director of Department of Medicine Phramongkutklao Hospital, a member of the editorial boards and a reviewer of several scientific journals. Currently, he is the Vice Secretary General of the Gastroenterological Association of Thailand (GAT) and Scientific Chairman of Thai Gastroenterology Foundation.
