I graduated with MBBS from the University of Ruhuna. I joined the Department of Physiology in 2000 as a probationary lecturer and was promoted to senior lecturer in 2006 after completing my Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Kelaniya and to Professor of Physiology. I obtained my PhD in Gastrointestinal Physiology from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Currently, I serve as the Chair Professor in Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. I am involved in teaching undergraduates following MBBS, BSc Speech and Hearing Sciences, BSc Occupational Therapy, BSc Physiotherapy degrees. My postgraduate teaching includes an MD Ophthalmology degree and a postgraduate diploma in physiology. I have supervised several PhD students. My main research interests are the brain-gut axis, gastrointestinal motility, and functional gastrointestinal disorders. I have over 80 publications, including 7 book chapters and 68 scientific papers in indexed journals. My work has been cited over 3500 times, and my H-index of 34. Additionally, I have presented more than 120 abstracts on gastroenterology topics at national and international conferences and have delivered several invited lectures, including three prestigious orations and a Presidential address. I have received numerous national and international awards for research, including the prestigious Junior Investigator Award in Pediatrics from the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD), USA, in 2013. She has also received the KN Seneviratne Award for Physiology (2009), Sri Lanka, the Hiran Thilakaratne Award for Medicine (2007-2009), Sri Lanka, and ten Presidential Awards for research in Sri Lanka (2008-2018). I have served on the editorial boards of several journals, including the World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics, Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology, and the World Journal of Hepatology. I have peer-reviewed over 50 manuscripts in many journals. I am a researcher in Sri Lanka with a special interest in gastrointestinal physiology and functional gastrointestinal disorders. My main research areas include variations in normal gastric motor functions, gastrointestinal motility disorders, functional gastrointestinal diseases, and brain-gut axis. My key research areas are abdominal pain, brain-gut axis, constipation, environmental physiology, functional gastrointestinal disorders, functions of the autonomic nervous system and gastrointestinal motility In addition to my research, I have held significant administrative roles, such as Head of the Department of Physiology, Director of the Research Centre, Chairperson of the Research Management Committee at the Faculty of Medicine, and Chairperson of the Board of Study in Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya. Through them, I have promoted research culture at the University of Kelaniya. I love painting and movies. I love to travel, especially archaeological sites.
