Dr. Islam earned his MD from the University of Toronto in 1995, and he then came to Queen’s for his residency in Radiology. After completing a Neuroradiology fellowship at Yale University. Dr. Islam returned to Queen’s in 2001 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and as the Section Head for the Division of Neuroradiology and Head & Neck Imaging. From 2003 until 2018. Dr. Islam served as the MRI Director & Chair of the Quality Advisory Committee and as the President of the Board of Directors for Kingston MRI Inc., a non-profit community MRI clinic. In 2006, he co-founded, Canadian Teleradiology Services Incorporated (CTS), one of Canada's premier Teleradiology companies. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Examination Board in Diagnostic Radiology for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has a research interest in improving imaging access in Canada’s north, and is co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the Portable MRI Journal, the world’s first medical journal devoted to ultra-low field MRI. Since 2019, he has served as Head, Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Queen's University. In 2017, he joined The Comprehensive Clinical Neurosurgery Review as a member of the Lead Faculty. Dr. Islam has also provided his medical expertise to the courts by writing over 50 expert opinion reports since 2003. He is Physician Facilitator, Touchstone Institute, Delegate of District 7 Ontario Medical Association, Member, Ontario Health Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Advisory Committee, and Regional Imaging Lead South East Region, Cancer Care Ontario.
