Prof. Fabio Sallustio has a PhD in Biotechnology Applied to Transplants of Organs and Tissues and a degree in Biological Sciences - Biomolecular specialization - obtained at the University of Bari “Aldo Moro”. He carried out scientific research at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of IRCSS Giannina Gaslini Institute of Genoa. In this laboratory he has specialized in studies of high-throughput gene expression by acquiring specific skills in methods that use microarray chip. He also gained skills and experience in statistical analysis and bioinformatics complex data arising from "whole-genome” studies. From 2005 to 2007 he worked in the Research and Development department of a Biotech Company in Florence (Italy), dealing with molecular genetics and the development of new genetic tests. Since October 1, 2007, Dr. Sallustio coordinates a research group on adult renal stem/progenitor cells and IgA Nephropathy. Actually, he  is  principal investigator at the University of Bari. His research is focused on two main fields:  (1) the genomic and functional characterization of adult renal stem/progenitor cells, with an emphasis on their molecular mechanisms of renal damage recovery; (2) cellular and molecular mechanisms in kidney diseases, with particular reference to IgA Nephropathy.
