Dr. Athanasios G. Papavassiliou is Professor of Biochemistry and Head of the Department of Biological Chemistry, Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He received his M.D. (Valedictorian) from the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (1984) and his Ph.D. in Cellular, Molecular, and Biophysical Studies from Columbia University, New York, NY, USA (1989). He had postdoctoral training at the Department of Microbiology, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University and at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Heidelberg, Germany (1989-1991), where he also served as Staff Scientist (1991-1996). He has published (MEDLINE/PubMed) over 445 original research and review articles in international peer-reviewed journals (2020 JCR® mean impact factor: 7.50 / h-index: 76 / 19.370 citations). He serves/has served as Editorial Board member or Editor in 55 peer-reviewed biomedical journals and reviewer for numerous biomedical journals. His research interests include the study of signal transduction to transcription factors in cell differentiation and tumorigenesis.
