Balbaa earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1975 from the University of Alexandria (Alexandria, Egypt). He then completed a biochemical thesis there between 1977 and 1979 to earn his master's degree in 1979. He completed his doctorate at Hokkaido University School of Medicine in Japan between 1984 and 1988. His research has included the study of enzyme characterization, enzyme inhibition, cell signaling, the biochemical parameters in diseases, and insulin-induced signaling. He is serving as an expert reviewer for many journals. He has authorized more than 70 peer-reviewed research articles. Among the topics he has studied include insulin-induced signaling, biochemical parameters in illnesses, cell signaling, enzyme characterization, and enzyme inhibition. He is reviewing articles for numerous journals as an expert. He has approved over 50 peer-reviewed research publications as either the first or last author (with 85% of them serving as the corresponding author). More than 500 manuscripts in the following journals: Plos One (8) Heliyon (8) Journal of Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders (6) Medical Oncology (5) Archives of Physiology and Biochemistry (5) Natural Product Research (4) BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies (4) International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries (4) Asian Journal of Research in Biochemistry (3) Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity: Targets and Therapy (3) Cellular Signalling (3) Technology in Cancer Research & Treatment (3) Current Bioactive Compounds (3) BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine (3) International Journal of Biochemistry Research & Review (3) Annual Research & Review in Biology (2) Chinese Medical Journal (2) Molecules (2) Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology (2) Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology (2) Infectious Agents and Cancer (2) ACS Omega (2) Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry (2) Beni-Suef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences (2) Asian Journal of Medicine and Health (2) Asian Food Science Journal (1) International Journal of Nanomedicine (1) Pharmaceutics (1) Arabian Journal of Chemistry (1) World Journal of Clinical Cases In addition to World journals. The important field is the study of enzyme reactions and cell signaling and their relationship to diseases. I attended many international scientific conferences as a speaker. I led many research teams and have a variety of teaching experiences. I was hired as a biochemistry professor at the University of Qatar in Doha, Qatar in 2002. In 2006, I transferred back to Alexandria University in Egypt. From 2007 to 2009, I served as the chairman of Alexandria University's Department of Biochemistry in Egypt. I relocated to Beirut Arab University (Beirut, Lebanon) once more in 2009, where I continued to serve as a biochemistry professor until going to Alexandria University in 2014. I like music and movies.
