Dr Martini is a senior surgeon at the Digestive Surgery Unit of Clinique des Cedres in Cornebarrieu, France. The clinic is a high-volume center for bariatric and oncologic surgery. Having received his MD degree from Florence Medical University (Italy) in 2003, Dr Martini completed his residency at the Florence University Hospital. Afterwards he moved to Paris, France where he completed two post-residency fellowships in renowned centers for hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and liver transplantation: Beaujon Hospital, under the guide of Prof. J. Belghiti, and Pitié Salpetrière Hospital, under the guide of Prof. L. Hannoun. In october 2012 he moved to Nice, where he completed a two-years fellowship in the of Unit of HPB and Bariatric Surgery, directed by Prof. J. Gugenheim. Under the mentoring of Prof A. Iannelli he could improve his knowledge and skills in the field of bariatric surgery and got involved in clinical research. Dr Martini was awarded with two scholarships for the research project “Assessment of predictors of liver steatosis in obese patients in order to improve the selection of liver grafts“. Moreover he significantly contributed to the preparation of the protocol for a multicentric randomized clinical trial (“Omegobese Study: Impact of preoperative 4-week supplementation with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on liver volume and steatosis reduction in order to facilitate bariatric surgery in morbidly obese patients”), which was financed from the French Ministry of Health and his now actively recruiting patients. He is reviewer of several scientific journals, and has published 20 indexed articles, mainly in the field of bariatric surgery.
