He was born in Al-Awamiyah, Qatif, Saudi Arabia. He did his 'A' level certificate of higher education in Worthing College of Technology, West Sussex, England in 1978. He qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in June 1984 and did the internship year in Scotland. He did his postgraduate surgical training in Manchester, England and obtained the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1989.
