Giuseppe Zimmitti works as Staff Surgeon in the Department of General Surgery of the Istituto Ospedaliero Fondazione Poliambulanza in Brescia, Italy.   After receiving his Medical Degree in 2003, he won a Grant for "New technology and organs transplantation" and performed a Clinical-Research Fellowship in the Department of Liver surgery and Transplantation of  the Centre Hépato-Biliaire Paul Brousse, Villejuif, Paris, France (March 2003-May 2004).  In 2010 he achieved his Specialization in General Surgery and obtained a Grant for a Clinical-Research Fellowship at the MDAnderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA (May 2011 - March 2013). During this period he focused his research activity on novel prognostic factors for patients undergoing liver resection for colorectal liver metastases.  Since June 2013 until March 2014 he received a Grant for a Research concerning "Cholangiocarcinoma: risk factors and molecular profile".  Starting from 2017 he is Adjunct Professor in Emergency Surgery and Hepato-biliary-pancreatic Surgery at Cattolica Universty, Brescia Campus.  In 2019 he achieved the ASN (Italian National Scientific Qualification) for Surgery Teaching. In March 2020 he achieved his Phd degree in "Oncologic Sciences" (thesis title:  “Predicting survival following resection of liver metastases from colorectal cancer. Particular focus on response to preoperative chemotherapy, somatic gene mutational status, and primary tumor embriology”).  He is Author/co-author of 69 peer-reviewed articles published in International Journals.  His clinical and research fields of interests is  the minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) approach to the management of oncologic gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases.
