Professor Schemmer is Professor of Surgery, Head and Senior Surgeon. He is an academic surgeon and clinical scientist who has devoted himself to both surgical oncology and solid organ transplantation. While he performs general, endocrine, upper and lower GI surgery his special interest is both liver transplantation and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery including minimal invasive approaches. To date he has performed more than 6000, mostly highly complex, surgical operations. His h-index of 54 reflects his scholarly success with more than 640 publications cited more than 11600 times. He is serving as associated editor, guest editor, and board member of numerous scientific journals, is (honorary) member of various national and international scientific societies and serves as reviewer of projects applying for national and international third-party funds. He was honored with prestigious awards and degrees, i.e. Dr. H C (Vilnius University, Lithuania), Professor H C (Zhejiang University, Huzhou Hospital, China) and Professor H C (Dalian Medical University, China).
