Dr Debmalya Sanyal, currently a Professor at the Department of Endocrinology, KPC Medical College , Kolkata, India. He is currently a Conjoint Professor, School of Medicine & Public Health, University of Newcastle, Australia. He is also a faculty of Diabetes & Endocrine Certificate Course of New South Wales University, Australia and KPC Medical College, Kolkata. He graduated (MBBS) with honours from Calcutta University in 1997 and completed DTM&H (Postgraduate Diploma in Tropical Medicine) from School of Tropical Medicine, Calcutta University, followed by postgraduate degree ( MD) in Internal Medicine from Utkal University. He completed a three-years residency and also received doctoral degree (DM) in Endocrinology from West Bengal University of Health Sciences in 2007. He obtained MRCPI from Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2010. He received the FACE( Fellow, American College of Endocrinology) distinction in 2015. He is actively involved in research, academic as well as clinical practice in the field of endocrinology. He has authored or co-authored 82 papers in national and international peer reviewed journals. He has presented his research papers at international/ national conference meetings like ENDO and AACE in USA, RSSDI and ESICON in India. He received the Best Paper Presentation in Eastern Zone Endocrine Conference in 2006. He was awarded Indian Medical Association Dr Deepak Banerjee Award for best paper published in Journal of Indian Medical Association in 2009, 2019. He was selected for travel grants for paper presentation in AACE. He has been DNB (doctoral) thesis co-guide in Post Transplant Diabetes or NODAT. He was an invited speaker in many conferences like 2013 Asia Pacific Diabetes Symposium in Kualalumpur, Malaysia. He was also a speaker at several meetings like Endocrine Society of India Conference, SAFES (South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies), Indian Thyroid Society Conference. He is currently secretary of Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India(RSSDI), West Bengal Chapter and member of executive committee of Endocrine Society of Bengal. He was the former Secretary of Diabetic Association of India (WB Chapter). He was the member of Scientific Committee of Endocrine Society of India Conference in 2012. He is a Fellow of American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He is a member of The Endocrine Society, USA, ,Endocrine Society of India, Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India(RSSDI). He has been involved in a number of International clinical trials in the field of endocrinology. His area of interest in diabetes are complications in diabetes and therapy: diabetes and fatty liver, GLP-1, type 1 diabetes, insulin and renal impairment, pregnancy in diabetes. He also has quite a few publications in these areas. His ongoing research is focused on type 1 diabetes, pancreatic diabetes, diabetes in young, diabetes and CKD, epidemiology and genetic aspects of diabetes and renal transplant, pharmacotherapy in diabetes.
