  Associate Professor Maja Cigrovski Berkovic graduated with honors from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2000. In 2004 she became a specialist in Internal Medicine and 2008, a subspecialist in Endocrinology and Diabetes. She finished her PhD in 2009 with the thesis The Role of Cytokines and Growth Factors on the Development and Progression of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors-GEP-NETs. She worked at University Hospital Centre Sestre milosrdnice, Zagreb, between 2000 and 2020. In 2020 she became the Head of the Outpatient Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at University Hospital Dubrava, Zagreb, Croatia and during 2020-2020 she was the Head of the COVID-19 ward within the same Hospital at the time a National COVID-19 Centre. Professor Maja Cigrovski Berkovic won the Dan Etzwiler Scholarship and trained at the Mayo Clinic and IDC, Minnesota, USA. She was a national PI for the HAT (Hypoglycemia Assessment Tool) Study and is a participating expert in the Sports&Diabetes projects, cofounded by IDF Europe and European sports clubs. She teaches internal medicine and physiology of exercise and sports in undergraduate and postgraduate University programs in the Faculty of Kinesiology and School of Medicine in Zagreb. Her special interests are hypoglycemia prevention, prevention of metabolic derangements with exercise, diabetes mellitus, glycemic management during sport and exercise, and GEP-NENs. She published over 80 scientific papers in renowned international journals and wrote several books and book chapters in university textbooks. She is a member of the Croatian Medical Chamber, ENETS, Croatian Society for Endocrinology, Croatian Society for Diabetes and Metabolism, and is an EC member of COST CA21116 TRANSPAN.
